Taxpayer-funded projects should mean fair wages for working people.

Texas Government Code Chapter 2258 is the state law addressing prevailing wages on public works projects, similar to the federal Davis-Bacon Act. The principle is simple: when taxpayer dollars fund public construction projects, workers should be paid wages that reflect the prevailing rates for their trade and region.

The record matters. During his tenure as a CCISD trustee, candidate Eric Villarreal voted against prevailing wages for construction projects built by the district. That vote matters because the men and women building our public schools deserve fair compensation for their skilled labor.

Taxpayer dollars should support fair wages, respect skilled tradespeople, and strengthen working families in our community.
