June Bonsai in the Gardens was a warm humid day, and we survived the mosquitoes. The bonsai trees enjoyed the recent rains, so today was a day of trimming.
Jorge Mendizabal is a great teacher and meticulously led the repotting of his Tiger Bark Ficus (Ficus microcarpa). Jorge explained the reasons and purpose of repotting, preparing the pot, soil selection, and pruning of this mighty tree.
We welcome three new members, Deborah, John and Virginia who joined us this morning!
In addition to the repotting, David pruned the Texas Ebony (Ebenopsis ebana) and the Water Jasmine (Wrightia religiosa). There were a few dainty white fragrant blooms on the jasmine. Hopefully with the pruning and a bit more rain, it will push a canopy of flowers.
The South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center is in full bloom and a great place to spend the day admiring the plants, butterflies, reptiles, parrots and various other colorful birds.
If you missed today, plan to join us on July 11th for more maintenance and a special display of Tiny Bonsai and the Giants!
