Know Your Roots – Session 3 was a success.

We got our hands in compost and soil samples, breaking it apart, comparing textures, asking questions, really learning what healthy soil looks and feels like. Knowing your land hits different when you can actually touch it.

The engagement? On point. The questions? Thoughtful. The energy? Growing every session.

And of course, I came bearing gifts — aloe vera, collard greens, and kale. Because we don’t just talk about it… we live it.

Huge thank you to John with for connecting us and helping make this happen. Shoutout to Brandon and the Umoja family for the support. And major appreciation to Moreno Valley College for welcoming us into the space and pouring into this series with us.

It’s growing. The room is growing. The conversations are growing.

Session 3 in the books. See you at the next one.

KNOW YOUR ROOTS – WORKSHOP SERIES

Today | 2:00–3:00 PM
Moreno Valley College

Everyone is welcome.

This is part of our ongoing Know Your Roots workshop series, where we explore how soil health shapes the food we eat, our health, and our connection to land and community. Today we’ll compare soil types, talk stewardship, and reflect on the power and legacy behind knowing where our food comes from.

Come learn. Come connect. Come grow.

Tomorrow we’re back at for Session 2 of our “Know Your Roots” series in partnership with the Umoja Program.

Last month’s class, “Sankofa Soil: Honoring Ancestral Knowledge & Ecological Farming,” explored the brilliance of George Washington Carver and his lasting contributions to sustainable agriculture.

This month, we continue the journey with “Seeds of Survival,” a powerful, hands-on workshop diving into the ancestral tradition of braiding seeds into our hair—a practice rooted in survival, resistance, and cultural continuity.

If you’re ready to learn, connect, and experience history through the land, you’re welcome to join us.

See you in class.
