What matters most in electrolysis: modality or technique?

Different electrologists may prefer different modalities, but effective treatment is highly dependent on something even more fundamental: insertion technique.

It’s easy to get caught up in the debate over which modality is “best,” but at the end of the day, we’re all working toward the same goal: effective, precise treatment and the best possible outcomes for our clients.

A great reminder that mastering the fundamentals matters.

We’re looking for participants for an anonymous research survey on the psychological and personal impact of electrolysis.

This research is being conducted through the Electrology Education Coalition (E2C) and will help inform our upcoming WPATH research presentation, as well as broader research into the impact of electrolysis for gender-affirming care, PMOSPCOS, hirsutism, hormonally influenced hair growth, and other reasons people seek permanent hair removal.

If you are an electrolysis client:
We would love for you to complete the survey and share your experience. The survey is completely anonymous and is open to anyone who has received electrolysis, regardless of the reason for treatment.

If you are an electrologist:
Please consider sharing this survey link with your clientele. We are hoping to gather responses from a broad range of electrolysis clients and treatment experiences.

The survey explores areas such as confidence, emotional well-being, social comfort, daily life, and the overall personal impact of electrolysis.

Anonymous survey:

Please feel free to share the survey link with others who may be eligible to participate. The more diverse the responses, the better we can understand and document the broader impact of electrolysis.

Case Study #1: Which modality would you choose?

Every electrology case is unique. While thermolysis is often an excellent choice for coarse facial hair, there isn’t always a single “correct” answer.

The best treatment decisions come from understanding the science behind each modality and evaluating the individual client—not simply following the same approach every time.

That’s what makes mastering thermolysis, galvanic, and blend so important.

How would you have approached this case? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
