We've had two more days of BIG fun at Overnight Camp!
Yesterday, we took a field trip to the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, CT, where we saw tons of sea creatures that live in the Long Island Sound — along with other animals like sloths, tamarins, meerkats, and porcupines! Our campers had so much fun petting Atlantic sturgeon, sting rays, hermit crabs, and more, and we also saw a thrilling 4-D moving about sharks!
After the Aquarium, we paid a visit to our dear friends at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Bedford, NY, where parishioners greeted us with a yummy barbecue dinner, cotton candy, popcorn AND an ice cream truck! Our campers enjoyed two giant bouncy houses on St. Matthew's awesome playground, a game room, a splash in their beautiful stream, and finally, a moving Vespers in the congregation's hidden Chapel in the Woods.
We reflected on this year's theme of Roots, and the things that sometimes hold us back from spreading our roots. And, we listened to a powerful performance of "House of the Rising Sun" by camp staffers Ziheem, playing a djembe drum, Jason, on the euphonium (kind of like a French horn), and Tor, on acoustic guitar.
And today? We had our annual Scavenger Hunt, which is always crazy, messy, and FUN!!! Empowerment campers Cameron and Yaritza, who've been to camp the most number of years, lit the official torch before the games began.
