✨ A New Holiday Tradition in Cornwall! ✨

Tonight, our community kicked off the season with Cornwall’s first-ever Lantern Walk around the pond, a beautiful, glowing celebration created by local residents with wonderful support from the Town Recreation Department. After the walk the park was lit up to welcome the holiday season.

Families strolled along the water with handmade lanterns, kids beamed with excitement, and the whole pond lit up with a warm, festive glow. It was simple, charming, and pure Cornwall....the kind of small-town magic that makes our community so special.

If you’re looking for holiday cheer, friendly faces, and traditions that bring people together, Cornwall is the place to be. 🎄✨🌙

🌿 Most people fall in love with Cornwall for the big things—our gorgeous open spaces and being just a train ride from NYC. But it’s the little things that truly make our town shine.

Take the old Ice House in the center of town, built in 1877. Once used for everything from storing ice to sheltering skaters and livestock, it sat empty for years… until a local mom had an idea: why not turn it into a family-friendly social club?

With neighbors pitching in, a mural painted by a local artist, and the Town Supervisor's quick approval, the Ice House was transformed in just two weeks! Now it’s a spot where kids play board games, ping pong, and hang out after the playground.

Only in Cornwall can a community dream turn into a reality this fast. 💛

🎆 Nothing says quintessential small-town America quite like Cornwall’s 4th of July celebration 🇺🇸 — where the flags wave high, the parade rolls on, and YES... we float two giant rubber ducks in the pond to kick things off.

🦆🦆 Because nothing screams “freedom” like a couple of 6-foot ducks bobbing happily in the water to remind you: the big day is almost here!

Get ready for classic hometown fun:
🎺 Patriotic parade
🎡 Local vendors & food
🎶 Live music
🎇 And a fireworks finale that lights up the Hudson Valley sky!

And so much more!!

Bring your lawn chairs, your sparklers, and your small-town spirit — this is the kind of tradition you don’t want to miss.

As part of our economic development efforts, the Town of Cornwall, New York and the Village of Cornwall on Hudson were recently awarded the $4.5 million NY Forward grant to support the revitalization of New York State’s small towns and villages. Due to strict guidelines issued by the State, we were unable to share the video the Economic Development Advisory Committee produced prior to now.

We are excited to now share with you the video that inspired Governor Kathy Hochul to publicly claim, “Cornwall is punching above its weight class!”, which ultimately led to Cornwall becoming only one of three municipalities in the Mid-Hudson region to be awarded the NY Forward grant. Take a few minutes to watch the video and take pride in the community you have all helped to create, and for the future of Cornwall we are designing together!

Residents and Business Owners,

The NY Forward Local Planning Committee has completed its work. A slate of 10 projects has been submitted to the State for review with decisions made sometime during the Spring of 2024.

Without the support and input from the public who helped guide this process, along with members of both municipal boards, the Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Advisory Committee, none of this would have been possible.

I look forward to the project annoucements in the Spring and getting shovels in the ground in the not too distant future.

Below is a joint statement from Mayor Gagliano and me. Please feel free to reach out if you have questions about the process or next steps.

CORNWALL FORWARD!

Did You Know?

Storm King Theater at 2 Idlewild Ave in the village has submitted a request for funding from the $4.5 million NY Forward grant.
The building was acquired in 1998 and was slated for demolition. Since its purchase the building has undergone extensive renovation and now houses a restaurant, café, kayak recreation company and an apartment. The former theater area now serves as storage and the funds would allow it to be converted back to a theater.

• Convert & restore existing storage area to a community theater.
• Installation of new walls and insulation.
• Completion of a new roof
• ADA compliant rest rooms
• Enhanced mechanicals – lighting, HVAC
• Stage construction
• Two theaters – Upper theater will serve as a dinner theater/lounge space within the restaurant that generates income.
• Lower Theater is a non-profit public venue called Black Box theater. It is 2000 square feet that can be transformed to suit many platforms such as theatrical performances, film screenings, corporate events, workshops and file editing.

The estimated total cost of the renovations is $841,045 and the developer is asking for $774,000. The rest of the funds would be self-financed by the owner.
The owner will hold two showings of the building for interested parties. One will be taking place during the day and a second one offered in the early evening. If you’re interested, please contact Elizabeth Bruschi at 718-288-6849. Or you can reach out to Elizabeth at the public workshop to be held on Thursday, Oct 12th from 5:30 - 7:30 at Munger cottage.

CORNWALL FORWARD!

Did You Know?

The Veterans Repertory Theater, Vet Rep, has applied for a portion of the $4.5 million NY Forward Grant.

Vet Rep is a non-profit that provides a platform for current or former military, law enforcement, fire/EMS, intelligence services, foreign service, DoD employees and contractors and their immediate family members to create compelling, professional live theater and events. They currently operate out of 16 Quaker Ave with a 16-seat theater.

Vet Rep purchased the Chadeayne Homestead in Feb 2010.
The Chadeayne Homestead, 1 Angola Rd, was built in the early 1820’s. It originally served as a single-family home & school then was purchased by the McQuade Foundation & used as a group home for young women until the pandemic caused it to close down. In August of this year the Cornwall Town Board changed the zoning from residential to General Commercial & included theater as an approved use.

The current 2 story 4310 square foot building needs renovation.

• 30 seat theater, box office, lobby, area for playwriting classes, administration offices and rehearsal space.
• Make the building ADA compliant
• Install safety features like sprinkler system
• Repair/replace HVAC system which is currently marginally functioning
• Expand existing parking lot with access from Continental Ave.
• Final phase of the project includes expanding the theater to 50 seats by adding balcony and box seats to the second floor.
• Third floor will be converted to usable space for rehearsal rooms.
• Second story roof of the front porch will be renovated for outdoor space and stage accommodating 25 – 30 people.

The total estimated cost is $3,651,500 and Vet Rep is asking for $625,000.

For more information attend the public workshop on Oct 12th at Munger cottage from 5:30 – 7:30. Each project will present their proposal and answer any questions.

Did You Know?

Riverlight Park at 183 Main St is under consideration for funding from the $4.5 million NY Forward Grant.

Riverlight Park currently includes the Little League fields, pool, playground, tennis courts, basketball & pickleball courts, 2-acre pond and the Sands Ring Homestead. The Town is proposing the following:
• ADA compliant stamped concrete walkways including a "Story Walk" around Rings Pond. They will be partnering with the library for the story walk.
• New restrooms adjacent to the pool and renovation of the Little League bathrooms.
• New playground equipment with ADA compliant elements
• New skate park
• Drainage improvements including bioretention/rain gardens to improve the water quality of the pond.
• Restocking the pond with fish
• Renovation of the ice house next to the pond so it can be used as a pavilion for public events.
• Interior and exterior renovations at the Sands Ring House. These renovations would preserve the historic building and allow the Historical Society to increase their programming.

The NY Forward grant would cover $950,000 of the estimated $2.22 million cost. The remaining funds would be covered through a CFA Parks grant & a State and Municipal Facilities Program grant.
