If you see Gary Chilton around town, please congratulate and thank him.
At the age of 15 I would tag along in the car, as Gary began his career with Cornish Rescue. At 26 I obtained my EMS license and for the next 16 years I got the privilege to work along side my dad. My son joined Cornish Fire 2 years ago, and for the first time in Cornish, 3 generations worked in public at the same time.
Today marks your last day as an EMS provider. No more 2am calls, late nights, or bodily fluids.
After 28 years in EMS, you’ve earned something that can’t be measured in years or calls: the respect and gratitude of everyone whose life you’ve touched.
For over two decades, you showed up when people needed help most. You ran toward the difficult moments, stayed calm when others were scared, and gave your time, strength, and compassion to complete strangers. That kind of dedication says a lot about a person.
I know EMS wasn’t always easy. There were long nights, tough calls, missed holidays, exhaustion, and moments you carried home with you. But through it all, you kept going and continued to serve.
I couldn’t be prouder to call you my dad, and carry on the tradition you showed me at a young age.
Congratulations on an incredible 28 years of service.
