We are saddened to learn of the passing of Steuben County, NY Department of Social Services Commissioner Kathryn A. Muller. Kathryn was instrumental in helping United Way of the Southern Tier shape our work with children and families. Our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues.

A heartfelt thank you to the Professional Business Financial Development (PBFD) program at GST BOCES Career & Technical Education for their incredible generosity and commitment to serving our community!

Earlier this spring, the students met with United Way of the Southern Tier and presented the results of their research, sharing why they chose to organize a hygiene drive and why they trusted United Way to help connect their donations with those who need them most. Their thoughtful presentation demonstrated not only a desire to help, but a genuine understanding of community needs and the importance of partnership.

Over the course of four weeks, these students collected an amazing 1,206 items and went a step further to prepackage 60 individual hygiene kits. Through United Way, these essential items were donated to Ernie Davis Academy, where they will help support local students and families.

We are incredibly proud of these young leaders for identifying a need, creating a plan, and turning their compassion into action. Their project is a wonderful reminder that no act of kindness is too small and that every drop makes a meaningful impact.

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth — a day that commemorates freedom, resilience, and the enduring pursuit of equality.

Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in Texas learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

As we honor this important day in our nation's history, we also recognize the ongoing work of building stronger, more equitable communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Twin Tiers Baby Bank is in need of preemie diapers. Check out their wish list below 👇

The response to our post about a need for preemie clothes was absolutely amazing and many people suggested a wishlist. I couldn’t quite find the words to explain my hesitancy and then I ran across this quote: babies can wear used clothes but they can’t wear used diapers. Aha! I was attempting to explain how we need to save our resources and our “asks” for diapers - and whoop, there it is! So for those of you who have been following along, we have moms registered whose preemies are still hospitalized -a set of twin and a set of triplets (and of course, there are always those who are surprised by an early birth or a very small baby) so we KNOW we are going to need to up our supply of preemie diapers for when they leave the hospital, and we would LOVE your help with that. Do you know that preemies are not available in any of the more affordable store brands? Huggies and Pampers are the only choices and those itty bitty diapers are 30 cents EACH and up! For reference, that’s more than the retail price of the largest store brand diapers we buy! Babies get changed every couple of hours, so 10-12 diapers a day is the rule of thumb; that’s a whole lotta money going into the diaper pail each month! Here’s our June Amazon wishlist specifically for preemie diapers; we are hoping those of you who were so generously offering to help us by buying clothes will consider diverting your efforts to preemie diapers!

☕🥯 Day of Action started with more than projects and volunteer teams—it started with community.

Before heading out to serve across Chemung and Steuben counties, volunteers gathered at Wegmans in Corning and Elmira for a kickoff breakfast, sharing coffee, conversation, and excitement for the day ahead.

Thank you, Wegmans, for helping us start the day strong and for being such an incredible community partner.

Our friends at the Chemung County Library District are kicking off their Summer Reading Program with an exciting Adopt-A-Dinosaur Party!

Registration is now open for this fun event, where children can create their very own stuffed prehistoric pal. Dinosaur quantities are limited, so be sure to reserve your dinosaur in advance.

What a difference a day can make❤️💛💙

Last Friday, our community came together for Day of Action, transforming compassion into action across Chemung and Steuben counties. From landscaping and painting to organizing, cleaning, and tackling special projects, volunteers braved the heat to support local nonprofits and help meet community needs.

THANK YOU to everyone who gave their time, energy, and talents to make Day of Action a success. Your impact will be felt long after the day is over.
