Corning Area Woman's Club

Corning Area Woman's Club Corning Area Woman’s Club (CAWC) is the oldest (since 1918) women’s organization in the area. The luncheon meetings include a speaker or program.

It supports community service programs through volunteerism and making monetary and needed-item donations. We enjoy lots of good fellowship at our meetings that are held the second Tuesday of the month, October through May. Our December Christmas Tea includes seasonal entertainment. Subjects of past programs have included:
- Rescuing Girls / Restoring Hope
- History of the Sears Catalog
- Transfo

rming Homes into Safe Havens
- Financial Planning Resources
- American Red Cross
- Steuben County Cemeteries
- Supplemental Health Insurance
- An Antique Doll
- Breast Cancer
- Living in China
- Buttons

Besides having fun times together, we are a Club of volunteers and encourage our members to be active in the community and to participate in our Club-sponsored events. The Corning Area Woman’s Club is devoted to charitable, literary, civic and education purposes. Over the years we have helped and taken part in many community endeavors. One main goal is to raise funds to sponsor Corning Community College Scholarship Awards. Each year awards are given to graduating students of the Corning-Painted Post Area School District. Our fund-raisers include:
- a homemade cookie sale in December
- a Theater Luncheon that features local talent and a raffle for many, many donated merchant gifts
- a Silent Auction at one our meetings. Donated items include various hand-crafted quilt pieces, baked goods made by our members, books, jewelry, etc. Through our fund-raising and the generosity of our members we are able to give to:
* The Potter's Hands - Rescuing Girls / Restoring Hope
* Bampa's House (Corning Comfort Care)
* Food Bank of the Southern Tier
* Meals on Wheels
* Salvation Army Food Bank and Red Kettle
* Corning Community Pantry

CAWC members giving back…Thank You!! On November 19, eleven members of the Corning Area Woman's Club volunteered at the Food Bank of the Southern Tier in Elmira to support our community. Together, along with other community members, we repacked and sorted over 6,000 pounds of food and personal items! We had fun as well as a great sense of accomplishment! 👍

On Wednesday eight CAWC members donned hairnets and aprons, and were 'on a roll' to help repack 1,440 pounds of french bread rolls. We had lots of fun and accomplished much to benefit our community. We even had our own competition of who can find the largest amount of clumped-together rolls from the larger boxes. Flo won the competition hands down!
