Fist Bump Friday is a weekly school tradition where faculty, older students, or community members, such as Rotary, line the sidewalk/halls to greet the students with fist bumps and positive words as they arrive. It is designed to foster a sense of belonging, reduce morning anxiety, and build positive relationships.

Thank you Hugh Gregg Elementary School for the invite!

In 2021, the Corning Rotary Club teamed up with the City of Corning and Corning Enterprises to create the “Rotary Cherry Blossom Trail” in Denison Park, as Rotary’s signature project in celebration of its 100th anniversary.

Last year, we began to celebrate “Sakura”, the Japanese annual celebration when the cherry trees blossom. They “drop everything” and head for the trees with a picnic. It has a wonderful, spontaneous quality. Last year in Corning, we had about 100 people join for a noon-hour event. No speeches, no program … just the trees … and a community gathering to share in a springtime ritual of renewal. This year, the trees have blossomed, “Sakura”, and we will once again gather to celebrate on Wednesday, April 22nd, at noon. Come join in to continue this simple tradition.

Meet at the trailhead located at Denison Park on East Market Street Extension, east of Conhocton Street. For reference, when traveling east on Denison Parkway, turn left onto Conhocton at Dunkin Donuts. If coming from East Corning/Gibson on 352, turn right onto Conhocton (first traffic light) at the former Rite-Aid pharmacy. Take the next right onto East Market Street Extension. The trailhead is a few hundred yards on the right-hand side. You can’t miss the big sign, “Rotary Cherry Blossom Trail.” Parking is along the street and in the City’s small lots on the left-hand side.

This is a Thank-you to all that made this event possible ...

Mid-winter brings the groundhog and his shadow. It also brings Corning’s Breakfast for Dinner Groundhog Day Fundraiser in honor of The Rodent.

Held February 2nd, club members worked with the staff at the Corning-Painted Post High School cafeteria, served pancakes, French toast sticks, sausage and hash browns to several hundred people.

Entertainment was provided by The Rodent’s cousins, Punxsutawney Phil and the Repeats.

Proceeds of this fundraiser go towards Corning’s youth programs. These include the Rotary Reads “I Can Read” book giveaways, elementary school classroom readings and special assembly programs, the High School Learning Center Interact, the GorillaBots and other such initiatives.

Thank you to our sponsors: Cutler's Carpet, Studio LMG, Dave Anderson, Gil Sweet, Laura Matson, Andy Rochester, Dick Puccio, Judith Garrett, Ernie Danforth, Theresa Rossettie, Buddy Cutler, Jan Harvey and Dale Wexell.

We're also thankful for the hosting by Corning Painted Post High School and the services of their Food Services Staff!

Corning Rotary President Jennifer Batzing welcomed Colleen Coro into Corning Rotary at our January 8th 2026 Club Meeting. Sponsored by Rotarian Ted Goldwyn, Colleen has already been a contributor to Rotary's work in the community and we're happy to have her join Rotary.

Colleen, originally from Horseheads, graduated from Le Moyne College before earning a Master’s Degree in Education: Integrated Studies from Cambridge College. After living in several places, including Rochester and Boston, Massachusetts, she returned to the Southern Tier in 2002.

In 2022, Colleen became President of the Corning Area Chamber of Commerce.

❝Community involvement has always been important to me — I’ve volunteered with PTA, the Wineglass Marathon, and other local organizations. I currently serve on the Boards of Ready, Set, Grow Child Care Center and Explore Steuben, volunteer with the Fund for Women’s Connect Planning Committee, and recently helped organize CareFirst NY’s Brunch in Bloom event. I am hoping to continue community involvement and volunteerism by joining Rotary. These things are important to me in my personal and professional life. I believe in Rotary’s mission and in the programs it supports. I hope to be part of all of it.❞

We welcome Colleen to Corning Rotary ⚙️.
