We have one life to live, and one life to give. Let’s choose to give. Let’s choose to be kind and helpful. Today. Every day. Right now. With everyone. Everywhere and all around us. That is truly our greatest measure of success. Mathew 25:40.

I started The Good Neighbor Project to help kids play musical instruments for free, and our work to support people in our community has expanded in unexpected ways. Through Covid, and now the heartbreaking impact to our Hispanic and immigrant community, we find a need so great and so desperate. For everyone with any heart and compassion we have pulled together to help a few people, but what about the other 100,000+ who needlessly are being made to suffer ? This is a humanitarian crisis that affects children, families, communities, businesses and our economy. It is our moral obligation to do the right thing. This is not political. It is just about being loving, kind and helpful because that is who we want to be, and how we want to live our life, and there are a lot of people right now who really need our help.

As we wind down the final hours of 2025, I want to express my enormous gratitude for the handful of people who supported our work this year. I deeply honor their commitment and generous support. They have helped me help others, and for me, that is truly the greatest success I can ever achieve in my life.

Very Thankful !! for the handful of people who have helped this fundraiser raise more than $1000 in Gofundme and cash donations to help Oligario’s family. I’m going to keep this Gofundme campaign going to see if we can get one or two more people to donate something.

Please help Oligario's family.
I am feeling so heartbroken by this. Oligario was detained for deportation on Monday 12-01-2025. He is like a member of our family. I spoke with his wife this morning and she has no money to pay for food. Their girls (age 11 and 14) are crying and not eating. Since Oligario is not working, he isn't sending any money to them. We can help. We can help this one family. Here is the gofundme:

I celebrated Noche Buena with my friends from Oaxaca, Mexico. We had my homemade paella (Spain) with fresh mango and a good bottle of Tempranillo. I am thankful for our friendship. They earned only $173 per month in Mexico. How can you survive on that ?!! We live like Kings while they suffer in poverty. We are called to clothe the naked, and feed the hungry, and welcome the stranger into our house (Mathew 25:42-45). Every day I tell my son to be kind and helpful. This is how we live our faith. I wish for you and for all our brothers and sisters a New Year in which we find in our hearts the kindness, conviction, motivation and personal integrity to help the weakest among us. May God bless you and everybody in 2025.

Thank you for your support in 2024.
- For the non-profit Swallowtail Waldorf School we were able to get a new John Deere mower worth $4,500, and encourage a donation for a new Kubota tractor with all attachments worth over $40,000, and get several wheel barrows from Lowe's, and provide a cash donation to all teachers and faculty.
- We continued to let children use musical instruments for free.
- We gifted several bicycles to the neighborhood kids.
- We helped support Virginia who makes tamales. Her husband was injured and she is struggling to pay the rent.
- We helped some of our friends who recently arrived from Mexico. They were hungry and cold, and we provided them with food, clothing, bedding, and assistance with getting established in our community.
- We helped a lady who stole food from Fred Meyer. She was hungry, homeless and desperate. She left with a large bag of non-perishable food, some indulgences, and cash.

One Life to Live ... One Life to Give

The inspiration for helping other people is deep within each of us.

I remember a time many years ago when my old friend asked me to flip her mattress. I discovered a mattress that had springs sticking out of it. She had propped it up with plywood and blankets. I told her that I’d buy her a new one, and she objected saying that it would cost too much money.

When I went to pay for the new mattress, I heard her start to cry. She said that it cost too much money, and that she probably wouldn’t live another day. I said to her, “At least you’ll get one good night of sleep.” About three months later, I got a call from her. She had stubbornly refused to let the company deliver the mattress, but on that day she informed me that she finally got it. I thought she was joking, so I asked her, “How did you sleep ?”. She said that she slept great.

Do you know how many good nights of sleep she had on that mattress before she died ? Over 2,000 nights.
