In 2004 Dave Yochum organized a group of volunteers and invited the "bigs" and "littles" of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte to enjoy a day of fun, including boating, fishing, tubing and swimming on the exclusive lake. These children would not ordinarily have the opportunity to partake in any of these activities. Yochum enlisted many of his neighbors and concerned community leaders t

o serve as "boat hosts" and volunteers so this vision could become a reality. The "Big Day at the Lake" event culminated with a huge picnic made possible by the donations of Duke Energy for the picnic grounds and numerous local companies for the food.

Big night last night planning for the upcoming Big Day at the Lake on July 18th. This group is working hard to gather boat hosts, games for the picnic at EnergyExplorium, water activities, inflatables, amazing food, and treats. We are staying abreast of lake conditions to keep everyone safe and to make sure a good time is had by all. Let's give a shout out to this amazing crew (and to those that are not pictured, but are hard at work). The count down is on to the Big Day!!!!

Last night we officially thanked 2025 Big Day at the Lake sponsors and donors for contributing a much-needed $100,000+ to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas. And three cheers to Jonathan Cox and Megan Miller from Seaboy Restaurant in Cornelius–they did a truly outstanding job of catering.
