Iranian American Association of Memphis (IAAM)

Iranian American Association of Memphis (IAAM) The Iranian American Association of Memphis (IAAM) was established in 1999 by some of the Iranian residents in Memphis.

IAAM was founded in order to promote, preserve, and enhance our rich Iranian culture. The goal was to educate and familiarize not only the second generation of Iranians born abroad, but also the American community to Persian culture, traditions, language, history, and its people. From its inception, IAAM has been involved in numerous cultural and social activities. Some of IAAM’s achievements are

celebrating the Iranian New Year annually, organizing Poetry Nights, celebrating other Iranian cultural days such as Chahar-shanbeh-soori, Yalda Night party, and Seezdah-beh-dar. IAAM has also promoted and advertised Iranian gatherings at Shelby Farms, as well as establishing a one-time scholarship for a deserving student attending State Technical Institute of Tennessee (2002) in the name of the association. Above all, the biggest achievement thus far has been establishing the Farsi School to help preserve the Farsi language in our community among our children and adults.

Dear members and friends,

Over the past few days, we have been contacted by many of our members who expressed concern about the current outbreak of Coronavirus during the upcoming public gatherings.

IAAM board along with number of senior members held an emergency meeting to evaluate the situation to ensure we are taking the necessary steps to protect the health and wellbeing of our attendees.

After careful consideration, we have made the difficult but important decision to cancel all the upcoming events including Chaharshanbe Suri on March 17 and the Nowruz Party on March 21. We strongly believe this is the right decision given the current circumstances. Our thoughts are with those directly impacted by this situation, especially the amazing people of Iran who may not be able to celebrate Nowruz with their friends and family this year.

While we are disappointed that we will not be able to celebrate Nowruz together this year, we are excited to announce that IAAM is planning to host additional events this summer. Details will be provided soon.

Sincerely,

IAAM
