Elderly abuse is a serious and often underreported issue that affects millions of older adults worldwide. It can take various forms, including physical, emotional, sexual, financial, and neglect. Research indicates that approximately 1 in 10 older adults experience some form of abuse, with many cases occurring in their own homes or care facilities. Factors contributing to elder abuse include caregiver stress, social isolation, and dependency on others for care. Victims often face significant barriers to reporting abuse, such as fear, cognitive impairments, or lack of awareness. Raising awareness and improving reporting mechanisms are crucial steps in combating this pervasive problem and protecting vulnerable populations.
