“ Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us (Matt 1:23 KJV).”
The birth, life, death and resurrection has been celebrated for centuries. One can become accustomed to hearing the story of the nativity and begin to take it for granted. Consider that Jesus volunteered to leave his secure position in heaven to come to earth to redeem mankind back to God. Heaven is a perfect utopian society with streets that are paved with gold. There is no lack, famine, hatred, political system, social injustice, religious sects or crime. The food source is unlimited and it does not require approval from a government agency for human consumption. Imagine living in a state of absolute perfection in the presence of God with total bliss!
Jesus unselfishly took the risk of leaving heaven and being born as a human being. Mary was a virgin Mary but she was born as a sinner just like us. Through the miracle of immaculate conception the Holy Spirit overshadowed her and she became pregnant; this connection with humanity made Jesus’ lived experiences legitimate. Jesus knew sorrow and wept (John 11:35), experienced infirmity and temptation (Heb 4:15) but he did not sin. This means that he was susceptible to the same sins that we are but he chose to abstain from sinning. When Satan confronted Jesus in the wilderness he wanted him to sin and forfeit his soul and cause all of humanity to spend an eternity separated from God. Jesus could have failed at his mission and failed to make it back to heaven. Jesus was willing to leave where he was to come to where we were to lead us back to God.
Our big brother came to heaven to rescue us from ourselves and the enemy (Rom 8:29). We can be our own worst enemy because the heart is wickedly deceptive so we must consult with God about everything (Jer 17:9-10). Jesus left a powerful legacy for us, HE is our example. During His lifetime he was faithful to God even unto death (Phil 4 :8). Blessed (happy, to be envied) is the man who is patient under trial and stands up under temptation, for when he has stood the test and been approved, he will receive [the victor’s] crown of life which God has promised to those who love Him (Jas 1:12 AMP).”
As always I most sincerely remain,
