Each year, the Corcoran Christmas Tree Committee dedicates the tree to a member of the community who has made significant contributions to our town’s Christmas tradition. A Corcoran Christmas Tree dedication is unique from other service awards in Corcoran in that it is focused specifically on those who have played a role in defining Christmas in Corcoran.
This year, the committee has chosen to dedicate the 2025 tree to the late Barrie Hugh Boyett. Barrie was a lifelong member of the Corcoran community whose generosity, leadership, and steady presence helped shape the town that so many of us call home.
Barrie was born on July 19, 1935 in McAlester, Oklahoma, to Hugh and Ava Boyett. His family moved to Corcoran in 1940 when Barrie was only 5 years old. He grew up on a dairy and graduated from Corcoran High School in 1953. In 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Una Lyle Harvey, and together they raised three sons, Steven, Michael, and David.
Barrie spent his life farming and remained dedicated to the land until his retirement in 2020, when he and Una moved to Tulare. Over the course of his long career, he served on the California Cotton Growers Board, Cotton Incorporated, the Corcoran Irrigation District Board, the Corcoran Cemetery District, and the Kings County Farm Service Agency. He was also an active member of both the Corcoran Lions Club and the Corcoran Rotary Club. Barrie’s service was marked not only by the positions he held, but by the steady reliability and dedication he
brought to every role.
For many years, Barrie also quietly supported Corcoran’s Christmas traditions. Though Barrie did so without seeking recognition, the Christmas Tree Committee benefited greatly from his generosity. His support helped strengthen a program that brings the community together each December, and his contributions remain part of the foundation the committee builds on today.
Barrie passed away in 2022, but his presence remains deeply felt in Corcoran. His commitment to community, his kindness, and his willingness to serve have left a lasting imprint on the town he loved. The Christmas Tree Committee is honored to recognize Barrie this year, not only for the contributions he made throughout his life, but for the spirit of generosity and dedication that continues through his family and through the many people he influenced.
As we celebrate the beginning of another Christmas season, we do so in gratitude for the life of Barrie Hugh Boyett. His love for Corcoran, his devotion to his family, and his quiet support of this cherished tradition reflect the very best of our community.
Several members of the Boyett family will be with us, in the street, just prior to the Christmas Parade for the reading of the dedication. The Boyett family will also light the tree at the end of the parade.
Please join us for the dedication, parade, and tree lighting.
