Built in 1916, the Carnegie Library was Corbin’s very first public library. In 1986, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Over the years, it has served several purposes, including as the home of WYGO Radio Station and, later, the basement served as a food pantry managed by the adjacent First Baptist Church.
In 2015, a group of concerned citizens came together to form the nonprofit Carnegie Center of Corbin with the goal of raising the funds needed to preserve this historic building for future generations. Through generous private donations, the group raised enough money to purchase the building in November 2020.
Since then, we have made significant progress in restoring and preserving this important piece of Corbin history. A new roof has been installed, tuckpointing has been completed from the roofline to the box gutters around the building, and historically accurate windows on the front facade have been restored.
But there is still work to be done, and we need your help!
The next major project is to complete the tuckpointing on the front facade, from the box gutters all the way to ground level. The total cost of this project is $18,500.
We hope you will consider making a donation to support the restoration and preservation of this incredible piece of Corbin’s history. Together, we can help ensure that the Carnegie Library continues to stand proudly for generations to come.
Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference!
