☀ Sunday Morning in the Word — Hidden in My Heart
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. — Psalm 119:11 (KJV)
It’s one thing to have a Bible on the shelf. It’s another thing entirely to have the Word of God hidden in our hearts.
The psalmist understood that God’s Word was more than something to read—it was something to treasure, remember, and obey. He stored it deep within his heart for a very specific reason: “that I might not sin against thee.”
That little phrase reminds us of something important. Sin is ultimately against God. And when we love Him, we don’t want to grow comfortable with the things that grieve Him. We want our thoughts, desires, words, and choices to increasingly reflect the character of Christ.
That’s one reason Scripture is so essential to our growth. God’s Word exposes what is wrong, teaches us what is right, renews our thinking, and gives us truth to hold onto when temptation comes. The more His Word fills our hearts, the quicker we are to recognize the voice that says, This isn't the way you should go.
We won’t overcome temptation simply by owning a Bible. We need its truth living within us.
Read it slowly.
Think about it deeply.
Remember it carefully.
And most importantly, live it.
As we fill our hearts with His Word and yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit, God continues His faithful work of making us more and more like Christ.
