What is PORCH?
PORCHinc was established to fight food insecurity by neighbors helping neighbors. PORCH originated in Chapel Hill, NC after a family realized that their son was sharing his school lunch with a classmate who didn’t have his own lunch. PORCH has since grown into a repeatable model of monthly neighborhood food drives and fresh produce distribution supplying food pantries, schools, and communities across the country. PORCH’s volunteer network of 60+ chapters in 16 states has contributed more than $15 million dollars in hunger relief.
Each PORCH chapter is volunteer led and dedicated to supporting local food pantries and food programs. Through a simple neighborhood based model, volunteers collect non-perishable food monthly from front porches in their own neighborhoods, creating a steady local stream of donations tailored to the needs of nearby pantries.
From the outside looking in, your community may not always display those in need, but they are there, especially, in today’s world.
The PORCH Coral Gables chapter was created by a local young man who is currently in a Masters program and then will be pursuing medical school.
