🥾📱 TRAIL SMART THURSDAY: YOUR PHONE IS NOT YOUR HIKING PLAN

Our mountains are beautiful this time of year — and they're also very good at making those little bars on your phone disappear. 🍂

Before you head out to enjoy the fall colors:
📱 Charge your phone before you leave. A portable battery pack isn't a bad addition to your pack, either.
🗺️ Download your map before you go. Don't count on having enough cell service to pull it up once you're on the trail.
👥 Tell someone where you're going. Give them the trail or area, where you plan to park, and about what time you expect to return.
🎒 Carry the basics. Water, an extra layer, flashlight or headlamp, and a few simple supplies can make a big difference if your “quick hike” takes longer than expected.

Your phone is a great tool — but cell service isn't a safety plan.

Enjoy the trails, enjoy the colors, and come prepared. 🍁🥾

🚪🔥 COMMUNITY SAFETY MONDAY: SHUT THE DOOR

One of the simplest things you can do to help protect yourself during a house fire takes about two seconds:
Close your bedroom door before you go to sleep!

A closed door can help slow the spread of fire, heat and smoke, giving you valuable time to escape. It can also dramatically reduce the heat and smoke entering the room.

Make it part of your bedtime routine:
Brush your teeth. Check the smoke alarms. Shut the door. 🛏️🚪

And remember — closed doors work with working smoke alarms and a home escape plan, not instead of them.

October is shaping up to be a fun month for Copper Basin Fire and Rescue, Inc. at Buck Bald Brewing in Copperhill, and we hope you’ll join us!

Have you ever thought about volunteering with Copper Basin Fire & Rescue? 🚒

Maybe you’ve wondered what it takes. Maybe you’d like to help your community but aren’t sure firefighting is for you. Or maybe you’re just curious about what we do.

Here’s your chance to find out.
Join us at our monthly meeting Monday, October 12 at 7:30 PM. Come meet the people behind CBFR, see the station, ask questions, and learn about the many ways volunteers can help.

And no — not every volunteer has to run into a burning building. 😉 We need people with all kinds of skills and interests: emergency response, medical support, traffic control, rehab, equipment and logistics, community events, fundraising, public education, and plenty of behind-the-scenes work.

No experience? That’s okay. Curious? That’s enough.

🍂 TRAIL SMART THURSDAY: LEAF-PEEPER SEASON IS HERE!

The mountains are starting to put on their fall colors, and that means more people will be heading out to enjoy the trails, overlooks and backroads around the Copper Basin.

Whether you're visiting for the weekend or you've lived here your whole life, a little preparation can keep a beautiful fall outing from turning into a call for help.

🥾 Know where you're going. Check the trail, distance and difficulty before you start — and don't rely only on cell service once you're out there.
📱 Tell someone your plan. Let someone know where you're going and when you expect to be back.
💧 Take water and a few basics. Even a “quick hike” can take longer than expected.
🧥 Pack an extra layer. Fall temperatures can change quickly, especially as the sun goes down.
🔦 Take a flashlight or headlamp. October sunsets come earlier than they did all summer — don't let darkness surprise you on the trail.
🍁 And take your time. Wet leaves can hide rocks, roots and uneven ground and make trails surprisingly slippery.

Enjoy the colors. Take the pictures. Just come prepared. 🍂📸

🔥🌲 Big News for Copper Basin Fire & Rescue! 🚒

Our firefighters had an incredible day of Wildland Firefighter training!

After completing required online coursework, eight of our members participated in hands-on training with the Tennessee Division of Forestry, working toward their Wildland Firefighter Type 2 certification!

Even more exciting? This group represents the first class on the East Polk County side to complete this training!

This certification prepares our firefighters to respond to wildfires throughout Tennessee and within the Tri-State Mutual Aid Association area, strengthening our ability to protect our community and assist neighboring departments when needed.

A huge THANK YOU to Tennessee Forestry instructors Joshua Dunn and Caleb Lynn for sharing their knowledge, expertise, and time.

And congratulations to our firefighters for putting in the extra hours to expand their skills and better serve the Copper Basin!

More training. More preparedness. A stronger community. ❤️🚒

🚒 Have you ever thought about volunteering with Copper Basin Fire & Rescue?

Maybe you’ve thought, “I’m not a firefighter.”
That’s okay — not every volunteer has to be.

A volunteer fire department needs people with all kinds of skills. Fire and emergency response are certainly part of what we do, but so are traffic control, rehab and support, equipment and logistics, community events, fundraising, public education, and plenty of work behind the scenes.

You don’t have to arrive knowing how to do everything. Training is part of the journey. What matters most is being willing to learn, pitch in, and help your community.

Curious? Come meet us. Ask questions. See what we do. There may be a place for you that you haven’t even considered.

🎃 Community Safety Monday: Decorate for Spooky, Not for Scary! 👻

Halloween decorations are going up all around the Copper Basin, and a little planning can keep the spooky fun from becoming a real-life scare. 🔥

🎃 Choose battery-operated candles instead of open flames in pumpkins and decorations.
💡 Check light strings and extension cords for damage before plugging them in.
🔌 Don’t overload outlets, and use outdoor-rated cords outside.
🔥 Keep decorations away from heaters, fireplaces and other heat sources.
🚪 Keep porches, walkways, stairs and exits clear — especially with trick-or-treaters coming later this month!

Have fun making your home spooky. Just keep the fire hazards out of the decorations. 😉
