Copper Basin Fire & Rescue would like to extend our sincere thanks to Wolf Creek Fire & Rescue Department for sharing a portion of the bottled water they received through the Anheuser-Busch Emergency Drinking Water for Wildland Firefighters Program.

The generous support between neighboring departments is a great reminder that the fire service is built on teamwork, cooperation, and helping one another whenever possible. We are grateful for Wolf Creek's thoughtfulness and for the strong partnership we share across state lines.

🚁🚒 Training Never Stops at CBFR! 🚒🚁

Earlier this evening, members of Copper Basin Fire & Rescue, Wolf Creek Fire & Rescue Dept. - St. 23, and West Polk County Volunteer Fire and Rescue participated in Landing Zone (LZ) Operations Training with our partners from Life Force.

When a patient needs rapid transport to a trauma center or specialized care facility, every minute matters. Establishing a safe helicopter landing zone is a critical responsibility that helps ensure the safety of patients, flight crews, first responders, and the public.

During tonight's training, firefighters learned and practiced:
🚁 Selecting a safe landing area
📏 Establishing proper LZ dimensions (often 100' x 100' minimum, larger if conditions require)
🌬️ Evaluating wind direction and hazards
⚡ Identifying power lines, poles, trees, fences, and other obstacles
🚧 Securing the area from vehicles, pedestrians, and loose debris
📻 Communicating with the flight crew
🚑 Coordinating patient movement and ground operations
👷 Maintaining scene safety before, during, and after aircraft operations

Our volunteers continue to dedicate their personal time to training so they are prepared when our community needs them most.

🔥🚒 Transfer Station Fire Response 🚒🔥

Earlier today, Copper Basin Fire & Rescue responded to a reported fire in the compactor at the Polk County Convenience Center on Grassy Creek.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a fire burning within the compacted trash. Working alongside Convenience Center personnel and equipment operators, crews were able to access the material, extinguish the fire, and prevent further damage.

Incidents like this serve as an important reminder that the posted rules at our convenience centers exist for everyone's safety.

⚠️ Please follow all posted disposal guidelines and never place prohibited items in the compactor or household trash containers.

While the cause of this fire has not been determined, items such as batteries, propane cylinders, fuel containers, hot ashes, chemicals, and other hazardous materials can create significant fire hazards when improperly disposed of.

We appreciate the cooperation of the Convenience Center staff and everyone involved in today's operation.

A few moments spent properly disposing of materials can help prevent fires, equipment damage, service interruptions, and potential injuries.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation of Convenience Center visitors during today's incident. Please help keep our Convenience Centers safe by following all posted disposal rules.

When a family loses their home to a fire, experiences a disaster, or faces an unexpected emergency, volunteers are often the first people there to offer comfort, support, and hope.

Copper Basin Fire & Rescue and the American Red Cross are looking for volunteers in East Polk County who want to make a difference in their community.

You don't need prior experience—just a willingness to help others. Training is provided, and many opportunities are flexible enough to fit around work and family schedules.
