Calling all Texas Makers: Are you looking for a new challenge for the new year? Want to work on projects which have a direct impact on quality of life? The Texas Assistive Technology Makers Alliance needs you!
We're looking for folks who love solving problems. And the world of ATech has plenty of them to solve! Whether it's helping a stroke survivor to fish again, creating one-handed joysticks for gamers, designing a better way to use a stylus, adapting a dog's ball thrower -- there are tons of things to work on. All sorts of Maker skills are needed: programming, mechanics, 3D printing, machining, bending plastic, woodworking, sewing, electronics -- on and on. If you have a skill, it's likely we have a need.
A personal anecdote: I've been doing some sort of IT work for over 30 years. Since getting into ATech two years ago, making gaming controllers, I've found this work to be the most satisfying of my career. By a long shot. You really do make an immediate impact to peoples lives.
The focus is on low risk and high reward solutions. This means making things that enhance joy and allow for full participation. Daily life improvement -- not durable medical equipment.
If you'd like to learn more, we invite you to join an upcoming Zoom meeting. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, December 12th, at 3:30 PM US Central Time. (Meetings are on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.)
