Before we ring in the new year, please help us congratulate Officer Phillip Searcy for being recognized as Police Department Employee of the Year for 2022! Not only did he receive this recognition, but he also received the VFW’s Officer of the Year award.

Officer Searcy was nominated by a supervisor from another shift and she wrote, “Officer Searcy was hired with the Department in March of 2021 and has already become one of the most sought out officers on patrol.”

The nomination went on to describe Officer Searcy’s involvement in major incidents throughout the year, but one that stood out was his response to a suicidal subject. Officer Searcy responded and realized the individual was in crisis and actively attempting to harm themself. His quick actions prevented the individual’s attempts and he was able to get them to treatment!

The nomination ended with, “There are numerous other incidents that could be listed but the end result is the same in that Officer Searcy always handles himself professionally and ensures the best possible outcome is achieved. We are lucky to have Officer Searcy serving and protecting our community.”

Officer Searcy, THANK YOU for your outstanding service! 🖤💙🚔

The Grand Prairie Police Department is mourning the loss of one of our officers who died in the line of duty. It is with heavy hearts that we report Officer Brandon Paul Tsai passed away after being involved in a traffic collision.

At around 10:45 p.m. on Monday, November 14, 2022, Officer Tsai was near the intersection of SW 3rd and Pioneer Parkway when he located a vehicle displaying a fictitious paper license plate. Officer Tsai attempted to stop the vehicle which immediately fled. During the pursuit, Officer Tsai lost control of his squad car causing it to strike a light pole.

Officer Tsai was transported by Grand Prairie Fire Department Medics to Methodist Dallas Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. Officer Brandon Tsai was 32-years-old and had been with the Grand Prairie Police Department since January 2022. Prior to his hiring at GPPD, he served five years with the Los Angeles Police Department in California.

He was a loving friend, a trusted colleague and an outstanding officer whose passion was providing service to the public.
