Each year approximately 80,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with a primary brain tumor. In addition to the often debilitating physical effects such as severe headaches, seizures, hearing loss, loss of balance and difficulties with coordination, brain tumors may also cause cognitive, behavioral and emotional problems. In some cases, these symptoms are severe enough that round-the-clock
supervision is needed, forcing patients and their loved ones to face financial challenges after a brain tumor diagnosis. The Glenn Garcelon Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) was founded to honor a man who devoted his life to serving others. In late 2004, Glenn, a former Denton resident, was diagnosed with an inoperable, malignant glioblastoma brain tumor. He courageously fought this disease, but in April, 2008, he lost his battle. This Foundation was established in 2011 with the goal of improving the day to day lives of those living with brain cancer, as well as helping their caregivers.
