What an absolutely thrilling night for our rain regatta boat race with the cubs!

The energy was electric as we launched our speedy boats, each one cooler than the last. The races between our dens were packed with excitement and exhilarating moments!

Pack 846-

First of all, let me say welcome to the many new families that have just joined the pack in the last month. We're thrilled to have you with us! We have got some great activities planned. If you haven't already visited our website, I would encourage you to check it out at www.pack846coppell.com to see the list of things to do to get started in the pack. In particular, make sure you see that page to get on our WhatsApp groups to receive pack communications.

Our first pack hike of the year is tomorrow (9/13/25) at the Coppell Nature Center. We'll meet at the Biodiversity Center (https://www.coppelltx.gov/401/Biodiversity-Education-Center) at 9AM. The hike should be done by 10:30 or 11.

If you haven't had a chance to sign up for a shift selling popcorn, there are still a couple of shifts open this weekend (www.pack846coppell.com/popcorn). Sign up on the Trail's End app.

We had a ton of fun building boats for the Raingutter Regatta on Tuesday! The Regatta will take place at the October pack meeting. If you haven't gotten a boat yet, check with your den leader to get yours. Den leaders, if you need more kits, contact Robbie Hill ([email protected]) to get more.

Finally, please remember that pack dues must be fully paid in order for your Cub to participate in the Raingutter Regatta. You can Zelle the money to "[email protected]" or get a cash or check to Sheri Hill, our treasurer. Please let us know if you have questions/concerns. Also, scholarships/sponsorships are available for any families in financial hardship. Contact me directly or your den leader to inquire about that option. We do NOT want financial difficulties to prevent your Cubs from being able to participate.

Can't wait to meet all the new families at the Regatta!!!

Yours in Scouting,
Brent Lacey, Cubmaster

Thank you to EVERYONE who joined us at Andy Brown yesterday! BIG Pack 846 welcome to our new friends we had the opportunity to meet today! We look forward to seeing you all this upcoming Tuesday, August 26th at 6:30pm for our annual KICKOFF meeting! Be sure Scouts have on their Class-A uniforms!

***Uniforms are one way we show pride as Cub Scouts, but we don’t want finances to be the reason anyone can’t participate. We have a limited collection of gently used uniform parts that you can borrow for the year - we also have scholarships available for families in need. Please reach out to your den leader or any of the pack leaders if you need special financial assistance.

🚨 New Required Training: Safeguarding Youth 🚨

Announced at the Scouting America National Annual Meeting in Orlando, the new Safeguarding Youth training is now live and mandatory for all registered adult volunteers. It is also a joining requirement for new adult members.

📚 Course Details:
🕒 Duration: ~90 minutes
🌐 Available in English and Spanish
💻 Access it through my.scouting.org
✅ Requirements: Complete all lessons + score 80% or higher on the final test

🔁 Annual Refresher:
After completing the full course once, a 15-minute refresher and retest is required each year to stay current.

⚠️ Transition from Previous YPT:
✔️ If you’ve already completed Youth Protection Training (YPT), your certification remains valid.
⏳ If you're currently taking YPT, you have less than one week to finish it. After that, it will no longer be available, and the new Safeguarding Youth training will be required.

UPDATE from Glen Pounder - If you took the prior YPT training, expiration is "One year from when the new training launched - at the latest. However - there is new material in the SYT which could genuinely save the life of a youth - inside or outside of Scouting."

🔒 Why This Matters:
Youth protection is at the heart of everything we do. This updated training reinforces a culture of active supervision, situational awareness, and safety, ensuring we’re all equipped to help keep our Scouts safe.

We had an excellent turnout for our garage days over the past months dedicated to helping the cubs build their Pinewood Derby cars. Everyone came together with enthusiasm, and it was wonderful to see both the kids and parents engaged in the process. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as the cubs worked on their designs, cutting and shaping the wood with help from the adults. We provided all the necessary tools and materials, and it was heartening to witness the teamwork and creativity on display as they crafted their unique cars for the upcoming race. We even found some time to zipline after.

A big thank you to Wilson Elementary and Mr. Hilton for allowing our pack to use the school table for this event and to all the den leaders who came to help the cubs.
