Some stories stay with you.

Josh was a craftsman, a Harley rider, a devoted dog dad, and a beloved uncle. He was also someone who believed deeply in caring for others and cherishing our time on Earth.

When Josh passed unexpectedly, his decision to register as an organ, tissue, and eye donor created a lasting legacy. Through his gifts, sight was restored, lives were improved, and hope continued for hundreds of recipients.

His sister Jessica shared that the connections she has made with others in the donation community have been life-changing, providing support, understanding, and hope along the way.

At Taylor's Gift, we are honored to walk alongside donor and donor-in-spirit families as they navigate grief and find connection through community. Stories like Josh's remind us that a legacy of generosity can continue long after a life ends. 🩵

Thank you to Live On Nebraska for sharing Josh's story and honoring his incredible impact.

"My brother Josh was so much more than what met the eye. He was a tall, bearded, tattooed biker who could seem intimidating if you didn’t know him, but those of us who loved him knew the truth. He was a squishy teddy bear on the inside.

Josh was the kind of person who would go out of his way to do anything he could to improve the lives of others. In addition to riding his Harley, he was a skilled woodworker, concrete craftsman, and metalworker, and a devoted Great Dane dog dad. Most of all, he loved being “Uncle Gosh” to his four nieces and three nephews.

The year before we lost him, Josh found a baby hummingbird that had died near his workshop. He gently brought it inside and built it a small custom coffin, writing a message on the lid. It read:

'Hummingbirds’ meaning to me: Appreciate the beauty around us, stay present in the moment, celebrate the wonder of the natural world, and welcome deep connections between all living things, and the importance of cherishing our short time on Earth. Hummingbirds tell us the joy of love and the inevitability of death. Be free now. JS'

That moment really captures who he was: thoughtful, reflective, and deeply connected to the world around him. When he passed unexpectedly from a subarachnoid hemorrhage and ruptured berry aneurysm, it was no surprise to us that he was a registered organ, tissue, and eye donor. Our mom was a strong advocate for organ donation and made sure we all understood the importance of registering as donors and sharing our wishes with our loved ones.

Through Josh’s gift of donation, he was able to restore sight to two older men in the Midwest, and his tissue donations will go on to improve the quality of life for more than 500 recipients.

For me personally, the connections I’ve made through organizations connected to Josh’s donation have been life-changing. I’ve found support and hope through incredible people who advocate for donor families. I am forever grateful for these relationships, and for the kindness and compassion shown to us." - Jessica, donor sister to Josh

June is Men’s Health Month, a reminder that health includes more than our physical well-being. It includes our emotional and mental health, too. 🩵

For many men, grief can feel isolating. There can be pressure to stay strong, push through, or carry the weight alone.

At Taylor’s Gift, we know there is strength in sharing your story, asking for support, and connecting with others who understand.

If you are navigating the loss of a loved one, know that you do not have to do it alone. Our Caring Guides and virtual support groups are here to help.

Recently, Tara Storch, our co-founder, joined the Gift of Life Podcast to share Taylor’s story and the heart behind our mission. 🩵
What began in unimaginable loss became a legacy of hope through organ donation, support, and connection for donor and donor-in-spirit families.
This conversation is a reminder that one life can create ripples far beyond what we can see.

Recently, we reflected on the incredible legacy of Corporal Benjamin S. Kopp. 🇺🇸🩵

After being mortally wounded while protecting his fellow soldiers in Afghanistan, Benjamin went on to save four more lives through organ donation, a final act of courage and generosity.

We are especially honored to share this story because Benjamin’s mom, Jill, is one of Taylor’s Gift Caring Guides, supporting donor and donor-in-spirit families through compassion, understanding, and shared experience.

Benjamin’s legacy continues to live on through the lives he saved and the countless families Jill now supports through her own journey.

On , we honor the individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Corporal Benjamin S. Kopp, a member of the 75th Army Ranger Regiment, saved six of his comrades when his unit came under attack in Afghanistan. He was mortally wounded and saved four more lives back in the United States through his selfless gift of organ donation. To honor Corporal Kopp and all other brave soldiers who became organ, eye and tissue donors, the Fallen Soldier statue stands at the United Network for Organ Sharing National Donor Memorial and honors members of our military who made organ, eye, and tissue donation their last courageous act of service. The site is a place of peace for all who wish to honor the gift of life! 💙💚

“That feeling is what really counts, the feeling that you will not go through this alone.”

Darcey recently shared her experience with Taylor’s Gift’s Caring Guides program and the impact her Caring Guide, Yosie, had during one of the hardest seasons of her life.

Over months of weekly conversations, encouragement, and support, Yosie reminded Darcey that grief does not have to be carried alone. Darcey shared that Yosie “virtually held my hand and never left me” during the first year after her loss.

Our Caring Guides walk alongside donor and donor-in-spirit families with compassion, understanding, and hope rooted in shared experience.

Because no one should navigate grief alone.

Grief support looks different for everyone. 🩵

For some, it’s having a space to vent.
For others, it’s sharing stories, feeling emotions without judgment, or simply setting small goals one day at a time.

At Taylor’s Gift, our Caring Guides meet donor and donor-in-spirit families where they are because there is no “right” way to grieve.

Thank you to one of our Caring Guides, Sarah, for sharing this reminder during Mental Health Awareness Month.
