We are one week away from our 5th annual Gorse Pedal & Pull! We pulled together some numbers and are thrilled to report that in the last four years of offering this event, we have removed over 500 pounds of gorse from the Wh***ey Run trail system. Can you help us reach the 600 pound mark this year??

Lots of fun new prizes this year, including a grand prize bike from Front Street Community Bike Works, and free pizza and drinks to participants during the after-party.

Looking back at our stream data from last month, we recorded 5.8 inches of rain at the West Fork Millicoma rain gauge. This is the most rain we've ever recorded in September since we installed the gauge in 2019! For comparison, the gauge registered 2.2" in September of 2025.

Over 3 inches of that was from a rare early storm over just three days (Sept 2-5). The rest came from two smaller storms later in the month. Water levels rose a little over a foot at most Coos watershed streams, but they're now back down to late summer levels, much like the rest of the state. We anticipate this will not be the case for long, however, as we head into an El Niño winter with warmer, wetter conditions - leading to elevated flood and landslide risks along the coast.

We will be at Octoberfish this Saturday, October 3, from 11-4, at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology! Come by our booth to try out our new fish-themed art projects and watershed trivia. If you haven't experienced the magic of this event, it's one of our favorites--live music, local art and science, tuna cookout, bikes, apples, fun community connections, and more. Also, fun fact: Octoberfish in October inspired the name of a certain event we now hold each May... AND shares the same tuna chef! Along with many similar themes.
