Today….June 14, we honor Flag Day and commemorate the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States.

The North Bend Young Marines were proud to participate in a Flag Retirement Ceremony, helping properly and respectfully retire worn American flags that have faithfully served our nation. This meaningful tradition teaches our youth the importance of patriotism, respect, and honoring the symbols of our country.

A special thank you to our community partners and everyone who joined us in observing this important ceremony. We are proud of these fine young men and women for their dedication to preserving our nation’s traditions and learning the proper protocols surrounding our flag.

Freedom isn’t free, and the American flag represents the sacrifices made by those who have defended it.

We want to send our deepest condolences to Carol and the entire family during this difficult time.

Josh touched countless lives and played a significant role in both our Sea Cadet and Young Marines journeys. One of his favorite sayings was, “These fine young men and women are our future. We need to support them whenever we can.” Josh truly lived by those words. He was always there to encourage, mentor, and support our youth in every way he could.

His dedication, kindness, and belief in the next generation left a lasting impact on so many young people and families. We are grateful for the time we had with him and the difference he made in our community.

Rest easy, Josh. Your legacy will live on through the lives you touched, and you will be deeply missed.

The North Bend Young Marines are honored to assist our local AMVETS in the respectful retirement of unserviceable American flags on June 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Charleston Fire Department.

We invite the community to participate in this special event and observe these young leaders as they learn and carry out the proper protocol for retiring our nation’s flag with dignity, honor, and respect.

This ceremony serves as an opportunity to teach patriotism, preserve tradition, and pay tribute to the symbol of the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.

We’ve been busy!

✅ CPR & First Aid Training completed
✅ Swim qualifications successful
✅ Welcomed Vets to the movie “I was There”
✅ Last min request to present Colors
✅ Lots of exciting plans ahead

With school almost out, the real work begins. Living on the Oregon Coast, our kids know the importance of water safety, and they absolutely showed that today.

I couldn’t be more proud of this group. Their commitment, dedication, and willingness to learn continue to shine through in everything they do. Watching their confidence and skills grow is incredibly rewarding.

Great job, Young Marines! The future is looking bright.

Please help us congratulate Bennett Nicholson, Bennett has been a part of North Bend Young Marines for the past 8 months, and we are incredibly proud of all he has accomplished. Despite the challenges that come with being nonverbal and autistic, when Bennett shows up to drills and events he is always ready to participate, learn, and be part of the team.

Bennett brings his own unique personality, determination, and perspective to everything he does. While he definitely has a mind of his own, that’s one of the many things that makes him so special. Every opportunity we have to spend time with Bennett at drills and events is truly rewarding, and watching his growth has been an honor.

Bennett, thank you for being a valued member of our North Bend Young Marines family. We are proud of you and all that you have achieved.

We wish you the very best of luck in your next chapter and congratulate you on this accomplishment!
