Honoring our veterans for their service and sacrifice: the Marshfield Pioneer Cemetery is open today. The MHS Jr. ROTC classes marked the 88 veterans' graves with flags and the era in which they served. Respectful visitors are always welcome during daylight hours. (call (541)435-1177 for the gate code) Please watch your step as we continue to repair headstones as part of the Partners to Preserve Our Pioneer Cenetery.

An article in the COOS BAY TIMES dated March 25, 1954 bemoans the fact that "Innumerable tombstones have been toppled, some of them split, in the graveyard which abuts the Marshfield High School property. Erosion and earth slippage has caused some graves to collapse and left headstones askew." Thanks to on-going support, the picture is changing.

Thanks to all the ambitious workers that showed up at the Marshfield Pioneer Cemetery! Many of the USCG Chiefs/E7 stationed between Florence & Chetco River gave up a day off last Friday and instead did some heavy lifting (literally), w**d whacking, hedge trimming, and serious tree pruning. On Saturday, 62 volunteers of all ages continued the good work of OBAB. Check out the numbers:

~400 pounds of rubble left from repair work collected and removed (concrete & sandstone) mostly completed by UCCG
~2,000 sq. ft area of serious ivy removal
~20 cu. yds. of brush - primarily invasives
~3 cu. yds. of tree branches from tree pruning by CG
~.25 acre w**d whacked (just OBAB, more if CG is included)
~27 Find-A-Grave photo requests fulfilled
~5 G.I. headstones cleaned

Your continued support makes a difference!
