Today we toured SUNY Cobleskill’s barns and Center for Agriculture and Natural Resources building! We had a great time looking at snakes, turtles, taxidermy specimens, fish, and all kinds of farm animals! Next month we will hopefully be touring a local goat farm.

Thank you to Hinman Hollow Dog Sports (Teresa Powers) and Sarah Brandner for helping fundraise for OGG! This past month our club benefited from a drawing class featuring pet portraits and hot coco at the Otsego CCE office in Cooperstown, NY! Three club members helped manage the event, thank you for the support of those in our community to help boost this club along! We hope to use the funds to take club trips, buy apparel to represent our club, and purchase supplies for future meetings and events.

Our February meeting was spent dissecting a small ruminant (sheep) digestive and repro tract! The tracts were donated by SUNY Cobleskill’s USDA slaughterhouse. A special thanks to Cooperstown Vetrinary Associates (DMV Michael Powers) for taking the time to walk these kids through a dissection, and Hinman Hollow Dog Sports (Teresa Powers) for allowing us to use their facilities! It was a bit smelly as it was a week old but what a great experience!

This coming Saturday the club will embark on an unofficial tour of SUNY Cobleskill's campus barns and ag related facilities. Over the weekend the school farrowed 4 litters of piglets! We are excited to see all the baby animals and livestock management systems the school uses! Here are two of the litter's piglets staying warm under their heat lamps :)

Welcome to Otsego's Gone Goating FB page! OGG is a 4-H group located in Cooperstown, NY where we explore all aspects of the goat world! Several of our members show dairy and meat goats at the Otsego County fair along with other shows within NY state. We as a group are dedicated to learning all we can to care for, genetically improve, and manage our goat herds along with learning about all agriculture around us!

Helen Powers began this club in the fall of 2017 with the hopes to give back to her childhood county 4-H program. A 4-H alumni and SUNY Cobleskill graduate, she aims to spread her passion for goats and agriculture to the youth around her. With the help of 4-H alumni and friend Kate Preston the club has made a bang into the '17-'18 4-H year!
