Lord, as our children begin a new school year, please go before them.

Keep them safe, calm their fears, and help them feel welcomed, understood, and included.

Give parents peace, teachers patience and wisdom, and our children the confidence to learn, grow, and communicate in their own way.

May this school year be filled with progress, kindness, understanding, and beautiful little victories.

One thing motherhood has taught me is to stop measuring my child’s progress against somebody else’s timeline.

Wilma has her own timeline.

Something another child learned quickly may take her months of practice,and that’s okay.

We’re not racing anybody.

We’re building skills, confidence and independence one step at a time.

And I’m learning to celebrate the journey instead of constantly worrying about the destination.

One may speak fluently.
Another may use AAC.

One may seek sensory input.
Another may avoid it.

One may need significant daily support while another may be more independent.

That’s why knowing one autistic person doesn’t mean you understand every autistic person.
