We're excited to announce that Toys for Joy has expanded their reach into southern Anoka County! 🎁Toys for Joy is celebrating 40 years of providing holiday toys and gifts to residents of Anoka County. Residents of Columbia Heights, Fridley, Spring Lake Park, and Hilltop are now eligible to apply for their toy program which offers toys, books, games, and holiday meal fixings for families who participate.

Because Toys for Joy has expanded their reach and capacity, SACA is not hosting our own holiday toy giveaway this year. If you are interested in receiving toys, please register through the Toys for Joy site.

SACA will still be collecting toys for the Toys for Joy distribution. Donations of new, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at our donation door between 10 am and 4 pm Mondays through Thursdays.

Did you know there are two types of breast engorgement?

🤱 Primary engorgement
Also called early postpartum engorgement, this usually happens around days 3–5 after birth as your milk supply increases. Increased blood and lymph circulation support milk production, which can leave breasts feeling tender, firm, swollen, or warm.

🤱 Secondary engorgement
This can happen any time after your milk supply is established when milk builds up in the breast. If milk isn’t effectively removed, pressure can build in the milk-making cells and may affect milk supply.

💡 Tips to help prevent or manage engorgement:
• Feed early and often.
• Aim for a deep latch and effective milk removal.
• Continue feeding at night.
• Room-in with your baby when possible.
• Offer the breast rather than routinely replacing feeds with a pacifier.
• Learn proper use of an electric pump and hand expression.

💕 Your breasts don’t have to be “perfect”—our goal is to keep the breast happy, comfortable, and well-drained.

Right seat. Right direction.

Keep your child in the appropriate rear-facing car seat or forward-facing car seat until they reach the height or weight limits allowed by the car seat manufacturer.

Then you can safely transition them to the next stage. Always follow the car seat manufacturer’s instructions
and the applicable Minnesota child passenger safety requirements.

Just keep swimming! Movie in the Park is back.

It has been a while since we have gathered in the park for a movie, and we are happy to bring it back with a family favorite: Disney and Pixar's Finding Nemo.

Bring the family, a blanket or some lawn chairs, and settle in under the stars at Aquatore Park Bandshell, Saturday, September 19.

Kids' activities begin at 6:30PM, with the movie starting around 7:30PM. Free and open to all!

Anoka's Waste Reduction & Recycling Board is happy to continue its partnership Peterson Shoes to collect gently used shoes, supporting Anoka County Brotherhood Council - ACBC Food Shelf's thrift store to benefit the community.

If you have gently used shoes you would like to donate, please drop them off at Peterson Shoes during regular business hours. Shoes will be weighed and the weight will be recorded to help the city achieve it's annual tonnage goal. It's a win-win for all involved!
