Our Auxiliary President, Heather, is also the Publisher for the Department of NC VFW Leader Magazine.
Yesterday she was presented the ‘Journalism Award of Excellence’ from the North Carolina Society of Historians for her hard work.
This is a statewide recognition, and only 3 people were awarded with this prestigious honor, hers the only one pertaining to veterans.
We are proud of you!

We had a wonderful time at Cooleemee Elementary trunk or treat! Thank you Heather Lou Cheryl Blum Kopetzky Daphne Beck & our new members Margaret Brandt & Todd Flanagan. Special thanks to Terry, who helps us with our shenanigans.

Picture of the best boi , Frank, for tax. Frank dressed up like Gary from SpongeBob SquarePants. He won our hearts, and would have been the winner of a costume contest, had there been one.

You know what? If Frank’s parents are watching, let us know. We will give him an award!

A Veteran dies by su***de. And suddenly, that one word can become the first thing people know about them.

Su***de. But there was an entire life before that word became part of their story.
A life filled with people they loved and people who loved them. A life with accomplishments, mistakes, laughter, struggles, ordinary days and extraordinary moments. And yes, a life that included service to our country.

The way a Veteran died should not determine whether their life and service are worthy of honor. We can acknowledge su***de. In fact, we should.
We can say the word.
We can talk about the circumstances.
We can fight to prevent the next loss.
And we can still honor the Veteran who died.
Those things are not in conflict.

Green Star Families of America believes a Veteran's entire life should not be reduced to its final chapter, and the family left behind should never be made to feel that their loss matters less because the cause of death was su***de.

Remember the life. Not only the loss.
No family should feel invisible.
