Ashawa Ski Trails Ashawa Cross Country Ski Club located in Cook Minnesota 28.0 km trackset. Mostly intermediate level trails. Located 8 mi N of cook on Co. Maps along trail.

Rd. 24 on Lake Vermillion. Trail runs through high, rocky outcrops with scenic vistas, and black spruce bogs. Circles western part of Lake Vermillion and connects area resorts, ends at Elbow Lake. Ski pass required.

Wood Loop Trail: Wood Loop Trail was groomed and tracked on Jan 16, including the Shelter Loop section.

The Sunset Loop Trail: We finally have enough snow and the trail was groomed and track was set on Jan 17th.

Note: There is some logging equipment located in the Sunset Loop Trail parking lot due to logging activity on the east side of the county road. There still is sufficient parking but use caution.

Trail Update for Jan 16, 2026

After the recent new snow, we set track on the Wood Loop Trail on Jan 16, including the Shelter Loop section.

The Sunset Loop Trail, the trail was last packed on Jan 6th. The trail is still open for skier tracked skiing. We hope to have track set on this trail within the next few days. We will post it here once that happens.

Trail Update for Jan 7, 2026

We set track on the main portions of the Wood Loop Trail on Jan 6.

The Shelter Loop section of the Wood Loop Trail was previously dragged and is open for skier tracked skiing. We need more snow before we can track set this loop.

The Sunset Loop, the trail was packed on Jan 6th. We still need additional snow before we can track set the trail due to the rocky conditions. The trail is still open for skier tracked skiing.

Note: There is some logging equipment located in the parking lot due to logging activity on the east side of the county road. There still is sufficient parking but use caution.

Happy New Year!

Trail Update for Jan 2, 2026

We set track the main portions of the Wood Loop Trail yesterday. Some areas of the trail have thin snow cover, so watch for exposed rocks.
The Shelter Loop section of the Wood Loop Trail was previously dragged and is open for skier tracked skiing.

The Sunset Loop Trail, is still open for skier tracked skiing. Use caution on the south loop that crosses over the swamp area. The recent cold weather should have finally frozen the thin areas of the trail crossing the swamp, so please use caution crossing this area.

Hopefully we get a significant snow fall from the system coming through this Sunday so that we can track set the remaining sections of the trails.
