God created men and women equal in value, but He did not give them identical roles or authority.
He appointed men to rule their households (1 Timothy 3:4–5) and describes women ruling over men as a curse (Isaiah 3:12).
Modern culture distorts this order by teaching that marriage is a partnership of equal authority where neither spouse is the head of the other.
Men are taught that a good husband should never exercise authority over his wife, while women are taught that submission to a husband is degrading.
Feminists in the church often twist “submitting yourselves one to another” (Ephesians 5:21) to erase biblical marriage roles.
Yet that verse addresses Christians generally, while the verses that follow establish the distinct roles of husbands and wives.
There is not a single verse in the Bible commanding a husband to submit to his wife.
Instead, wives are commanded to submit to their own husbands (Colossians 3:18), be in subjection to them (1 Peter 3:1–6), and be obedient to them (Titus 2:4–5).
God established an order of authority between men and women. The man is the head of the woman (1 Corinthians 11:3).
In marriage, the husband is the head of the wife, and the wife is commanded to submit to him as unto the Lord and be subject to him in everything (Ephesians 5:22–24).
A difference in authority does not mean a difference in worth. A woman does not become less human by submitting to her husband, just as Jesus does not become less God by submitting to the Father.
Biblical leadership is also not permission for a husband to become cruel or selfish.
A husband is commanded to love his wife as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it (Ephesians 5:25).
His leadership should be sacrificial, loving, and directed toward what is good.
A wife is commanded to submit to her husband and respect him (Ephesians 5:22–24, 33).
The biblical picture is not a husband abusing his authority or a wife usurping it.
It is a husband who loves and leads, and a wife who respects and submits.
Stop allowing the world to redefine biblical marriage.
Return to God’s order.
