Next up on Athlete Spotlights come from Coach Roger's and Boys Golf. This season’s most valuable player was Dylan Roof. Dylan was medalist, lowest scorer, in multiple matches this year and had some fantastic tournament rounds as well. These performances include winning the Blue Jacket Invitational and Horry County Schools Championships as an individual. He also made the All-Region team with a 4th place finish in Region and had one of Conway’s best individual finishes in the State Tournament at T-15th. Outside of his on course performance, Dylan also pushes his teammates to improve and hone their skills, making him a great leader. Dylan is currently a sophomore, so it is exciting to see what all he can accomplish over his next 2 remaining seasons.
This season’s most improved player goes to one of our JV golfers, Winn Hucks. Winn started the year with little golf experience and had his arm in a cast. As a result, he was very limited on how much he could actually play in the first few weeks of practice. But he used that time to work on his short game which helped his score improve overall. Since removing his cast, his scores continued to keep getting lower as the season went on. Winn’s finished the season climbing up to the 3rd spot in the JV lineup and made the All Tournament team for the JV division in the Horry County Schools Championship. Winn had a lot of growth in a very short amount of time, and we look forward to seeing him continue to improve over the next few seasons.
This season’s most spirited player goes to JB Richardson. JB wears his heart on his sleeve and is always the most animated out on the course. In golf, not many have enough confidence and skill to pull that off, but he definitely doesn’t lack either. This lets him really stand out and makes him an unforgettable competitor. Several coaches and players from other teams are always asking and checking in to see how he’s doing or what spot he’s playing in to see if they will be paired up together. As an 8th grader, JB qualified for the State Tournament as an individual and represented Conway with a very respectable finish and shows great promise to continue to improve!
