Today’s guest speaker is Dr. Watson Gunderson of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Instead of preaching a sermon, he told us about his hobby as a revolutionary war reenactor. His uniform is that of a corporal of the British Legion. There were three types of soldiers that fought for the king: the British army, made of professional British soldiers paid by the king; the British Legion, made of professional American soldiers paid by the king; and loyal militia, loyal American citizens that were unpaid. Watson chose the British Legion because he believes the other side of our history needs to be understood. His unit would have fought under Banastre Tarleton. Tarleton commanded British forces at the seige of Charleston, the Battle of the Waxhaws, the Battle of Kings Mountain, the Battle of Camden, the Battle of Cowpens, the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, and the Siege of Yorktown. We really learned a lot about a soldiers life in the revolution.

Today’s speakers were from Churches Assisting People. Karen Zeeman (l) and Donna Bodie (r) told us about the many ways that CAP ministers to people in the Conway area. CAP provides a food pantry that includes fresh produce donated by local grocery stores. It also provides help with utility bills, transportation, and temporary housing.
