Happy 4th of July! On many Independence Days, Geoffrey has taken the stage to perform Aaron Copland's 'Lincoln Portrait' with fine orchestras. Have you heard this amazing work? Abraham Lincoln's own words are set against a dramatic musical backdrop, capturing his rural roots on the frontier in Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois, as well as the turmoil our nation faced during the Civil War. When so many disagreed over basic questions of right and wrong, to the point of dying in great numbers in conflict, this great man served as a beacon of hope in a time of darkness. Truly, his example is worth honoring and celebrating!

🎻🎶 *Exciting Rehearsal Sneak Peek!* 🎶🎻

We're thrilled to share a glimpse behind the scenes with the outstanding musicians performing for Conway Fine Arts this upcoming weekend: Allyson Michal (first violin), Kaila Graef (second violin), Geoffrey Baker (viola), and Ignacy Gaydamovich (cello).

In this exclusive sneak peek, the quartet is rehearsing a captivating piece, "Somebody's Knockin' At Yo' Do,'" by the groundbreaking composer Florence Price. This pioneering composer made history as the first African-American woman to be acknowledged as a symphonic composer and to have her composition performed by a major orchestra.

Each member of our quartet brings a unique range of experience and talent. Allyson Michal is known for her performances with Portland Symphony Orchestra and international tours with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Kaila Graef is a violinist with experience ranging from classical orchestras and quartets to jazz recording collaborations. Geoffrey Baker, our violist and artistic director, showcasing his passion for fostering the arts and his expertise in both performance and direction. And, of course, Ignacy Gaydamovich, an internationally acclaimed cellist who has inspired audiences globally with his performances.

We can't wait to showcase these wonderful musicians at the upcoming West x Northwest New England Festival, but until then, enjoy this tantalizing teaser of what's to come. 🎶🎵
