⚠️ PRESS RELEASE ⚠️
Barnes Corners Sno-Pals
The Barnes Corners Sno-Pals is a not-for-profit snowmobile club comprised of all volunteer members that maintains over 110 miles of trails for the safe operation and enjoyment of snowmobile enthusiast in Jefferson and Lewis County. In December 2024 N.Y.S.D.O.T records show that over 19,000 riders utilized these trails as we have experienced an amazing snowmobiling season. We continue to maintain these trails and take great pride in the condition of the trails, especially this year with record snowfalls.
We depend on donations and fundraising like the SNIRT Run to supplement the funds provided to us from the State and Local governments to maintain these trails. These funds are used to purchase and maintain the equipment, the signage, the insurance and the facilities. We are staffed by all volunteers and could not do this without the dedicated women and men, not just in our association but in the neighboring snowmobile and trail associations as well.
As many people know the 2024 SNIRT Run was a challenge due to NYS Regulations pertaining to Mass Gatherings, insurance requirements of Lewis County and some of the Towns in which the SNIRT Run is held, as well as local laws limiting dates we could use the trails in some towns. We were able to obtain a 2024 permit with a lot of work from club members as well as the Lewis County Office of Emergency Management and THE NYS DOH BEMS and we appreciate that.
We have been working on changing the format of the event for 2025 to continue with the tradition. Unfortunately, we have recently learned of the new requirements of the county and in conjunction with the current requirements of the Towns and NYS mass gathering permit it has become reality that we cannot meet them.
❗️In a decision by the Board of Director and Membership of Barnes Corners Sno-Pals at our monthly meeting February 19, 2025, the 20th Annual SNIRT Run for 2025 has been cancelled. ❗️
We want to thank all the participants over the last 19 years, it has been an honor to sponsor this event and as we work to find new ways to fund the work we do on the snowmobile trails, we look forward to all your support.
