A tradition dating to 1920, the Philadelphia Gold Challenge Cup Foundation endeavors to bring the event back to prominence.

Defending champion Emma Twigg has withdrawn from this year’s Philadelphia Gold Cup. We’re wishing Emma well and we’ll miss seeing the defending champion return to the Cooper River.

But the Gold Cup story keeps evolving. Enter Kenia Vanessa Lechuga Alanis 🥬

The 2026 World Champion in the lightweight women’s single sculls and one of Mexico’s top rowers, Kenia is stepping onto the Gold Cup starting line—and making history as the first Mexican and first Latin American athlete to compete for the Gold Cup.

🚨 U.S. Lotman and U.S. Hoffman Challenges registration closes 9/30 🚨

Open to eligible athletes through free registration on the Gold Cup website, the races offer US competitors their shot at the starting line. Race day begins with a 733-meter time trial, with the six fastest athletes advancing to the afternoon’s 833-meter, six-across final.

The format is simple: earn your place. Take your shot. Race for the line.
