First organized as a sketch club by a small group of artists in October 1923, the art league was the first of its kind in Montgomery County. For 93 years since its inception, the Conshohocken Art League has continuously provided fine art classes, visiting artist workshops and exhibition opportunities to the Conshohocken and area communities' adults and children. We were particularly excited this f
all to have had an integral role in partnership with the Philadelphia Museum of Art's InsideOut initiative. As part of this series of exhibitions from the museum's collection, Conshohocken featured twelve paintings throughout town so that residents might find opportunity for encounters with the artwork. To enhance the dialogue, CAL conducted walking tours of the chosen paintings and their historic sites, culminating with a visit by InsideOut 's Philadelphia artist Moe Brooker, who provided an insightful presentation using several of his original works as backdrop for a fascinating progression of his non-objective artistic experience. Last year we introduced two new programs designed for --but not exclusive to-- the beginner: Basic Drawing and Introduction to Clothed Figure Drawing. Our visiting artist series continues this spring, beginning with a presentation from alla prima painter Stanley Bielen, followed by two exhibitions of member work.
