The organization was established in the memory and honor of an educator as a philanthropic avenue to render aid in the form of scholarships to assist a deserving graduating senior in attending an institution of higher learning Nickerson Memorial Educational Foundation is a nonprofit organization certified by the State of Texas and currently seeking federal 501 (3) (c) status. Our organization was

founded on the principle of philanthropy with the intent of assisting students for college readiness through the forms of mentorships, tutorials, educational and recreational camps, scholarships and community initiatives. Nickerson, who was an educator and enjoyed educating others, adults as well as children. He spent his lifetime sharing, encouraging and aspiring others to think "outside of the box" for their possibilities were limitless. Nickerson died at the age of 44 years but left a lasting impression and impact on a great many people. This Foundation is the basis of his beliefs that "all children should be afforded an opportunity to aspire higher than their means". This foundation has given scholarships to many students to assist financially with higher educational aspirations but would like to expand our efforts in additional needed areas of assistance. Our goal is the reach more students prior to reaching higher education status in an effort to promote and build self confidence through incorporating mentorships, tutorials, camps, social skills and community initiatives in preparation for higher education readiness. Our goal is to resolve as many obstacles as possible in the transition to higher education whether technical or college. The incomparable Dr. Maya Angelou said it best, "Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud". Dr. Maya Angelou's quote describes this organization's (The Darrell W. Nickerson Memorial Educational Foundation) focus and goals in entirety. Nickerson Memorial Educational Foundation is opened to supporters who possess a sincere interest in preparing our children for the future through solidifying confidence and assistance.
