There has been so much progress at the Vault building and I’m a little behind on posting it all. Please forgive me, we were busy tearing out what was left of the old roof. Last week the roof trusses were delivered and this week they are being installed! We can’t wait to have a solid roof over our heads and the interior of the building protected from any more damage. As this week is going our volunteers are continuing to work on the main floor of the interior while our amazing contractor, 509 Builders, and his crew work upstairs. There is a huge amount of “demolition” that has to happen in order to bring this building back to her gorgeous luster. Our fearless volunteers have taken on some pretty crummy jobs including removing soaking wet insulation from the ceiling to tearing out old stinky bathrooms to slowly and patiently spending hours chipping old plaster off of the interior brick walls. Today while the interior crew was working we began uncovering the exterior windows, one window at a time. We discovered that the glass was unfortunately painted over prior to being boarded up. So the paint stripping began. Much like the plaster removal, it’s slow going and patience is needed as these windows are 117 years old. They will eventually need to be replaced but for now… for now we want to enjoy their glory. The Museum Board Members are so very appreciative of everyone who is supporting us. From the volunteers, to financial donors to cheerleaders walking or driving by with encouraging words or horn honks. It’s going to take a village to complete this renovation and we are so thankful for this community for supporting us.
