Our 1st Summer Hours session at C*C commenced on Tuesday, operating from 12 to 4 pm. The day turned out to be remarkably busy. We initiated our day with a devotional session led by Carol, which consistently proves to be a profoundly meaningful experience for all involved. Our monthly Paint and Dip activity followed, where children had the opportunity to paint their chosen subjects, ranging from cats and sunsets to superheroes. As the paint coats dried, we proceeded with Chocolate Dipping Time, featuring an assortment of treats including oreos, chips, marshmallows, strawberries, bananas, and pretzels. Lunchtime consisted of strawberries, chicken patties, and tator tots, a perennial favorite among the C*C crowd. Additionally, Scotty sent in a PowerPoint regarding the 8th Ohio in the Maryland Campaign.

On Thursday, C*C brought participants to the Kernstown Battlefield with Scotty Edwards, where the kids were provided with a backpack containing essential items to construct a tent. Following minimal instruction from Scotty, the kids successfully assembled their tent after gathering suitable materials. The program proceeded with three simulated battles, during which the children gained insight into the visual and auditory experiences, as well as the physical endurance, of Civil War soldiers, specifically the Ohio 8th regiment. It was notable that the kids demonstrated impressive strategic and problem-solving skills. Lunch consisted of pizza and chips. Due to the warm weather, participants required frequent water breaks, during which they rested while still in period attire. Interestingly, a trio of goats entered the area, captivating everyone's attention during the intermissions.

Are YOU wearing RED?

We deeply appreciate the ongoing tradition of wearing red on Fridays. This gesture beautifully signifies support for our sons and daughters serving in the military. It's a powerful and visible way to show our solidarity. Your commitment to this practice is truly commendable. Thank you for keeping this meaningful tradition alive.

The Civil War Battlefield Kerntown was the destination for Tuesday's C*C excursion, where participants took on the roles of The 8th Ohio Regiment. A ceremonial gathering was held for the Captain, who would lead the group. Scotty made sure each kid had a era-specific clothing, complete with wool jackets and hats. The kids demonstrated discipline through their drill formations and orderly marching. Scotty provided a demonstration of Civil War-era rifle usage, impressively firing three shots within a minute, specifically 55 seconds, showcasing the skill required of soldiers during that time. Following a brief respite for lunch, including subs and watermelon, the group reorganized to engage in a tactical exercise, strategizing to outmaneuver the opposing confederate Soldier Scotty. The afternoon's blend of outdoor activity and learning about our Nation's history, proved both enjoyable and enlightening. Later in the evening, the occasion shifted to celebrating Rykus's 15th birthday, marked with cake and ice cream. Anticipation builds for the upcoming field engagement on Thursday.

Beyond our C*C days, our kids continue to congregate, engaging in skill-building activities, and delving into American Revolutionary History.

This past weekend, in Monroe, a few of our kids had the privilege of participating in Project Appleseed (through Trial Life or individually with a parent). The experience was both thrilling and enriching, yielding numerous unforgettable moments amidst a backdrop of extensive learning. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Monroe Sportsman Club for their hospitality and to Project Appleseed for orchestrating an outstanding program accessible to the community.

C*C went by too fast on Thursday. As the kids arrived they interacted with games, Legos and craft time. Carol started our time with a devotion, wonderful to to see what questions and comments the kids have. They enjoy this time with her. Next it was a C*C favorite of chicken patties, homemade mac and cheese with watermelon, grapes and bananas for dinner. Scotty spent time teaching the kids about the Battle of Kerntown in preparation for next week. Fresh strawberries on vanilla ice cream with another C*C favorite, homemade whip cream. The upcoming Tuesday and Thursday see us heading out to set up a Civil War battlefield field camp site and mini reenactment of Kerntown. (If attending need new Summer and Travel permission slips, if needed let me know).

Our Tuesday was filled with excitement and learning. The kids engaged in various activities, including games, Lego, and craft room time. The session started with Devotion Time led by Carol, which provided an opportunity to witness the insightful conversations and thought-provoking questions posed by the young minds Subsequently, Scotty conducted an Officers Ceremony, presenting uniforms in preparation for the upcoming mini civil war reenactment next week. Dinner consisted of a freezer clean-out meal featuring smashed burgers, chicken patties, hot dogs, and tater tots. The favorable weather permitted the group to march to the Octagon House, where they practiced drills and formations under Scotty's instruction. Upon returning to C*C, the children enjoyed ice cream cake.
