WSU’s grizzly bears at the Bear Research facility are being used to help test camping equipment to gauge how “bear-proof” it is. Equipment is never 100% bear proof, but “bear-resistant” is the proper term often applied to equipment that is deemed to be safe for campers in bear territory. T...

How many instances can you find in this article where humans' actions have contributed directly to human-bear conflicts in Lake Tahoe?
There is absolutely no excuse for homeowners around Lake Tahoe not taking action to prevent bears from getting to this point.

Despite a wealth of knowledge and years of messaging related to prevention of human-bear conflicts, AND more than 20 years of research resulting in many, effective products to secure attractants, bears are finding unsecured garbage, birdseed and other unsecured attractants around homes and businesses all around Lake Tahoe.

It's time to start really holding people accountable!!!

Before the garbage trucks come around, bears sniff out easy-to-find trash in South Lake Tahoe.

I just watched a show on the Nature channel about the very famous grizzly "399" in the Yellowstone Ecosystem, and then this article comes out. https://buckrail.com/grizzly-bear-spotted-in-the-aspens-on-tuesday/

Thankfully the bear was grazing on grass, but if there is/was unsecured garbage, pet food or a birdfeeder at this property, it is a very small step for this bear to learn that they mean a very easy, high-calorie meal.

It is vital that every person take responsibility for securing anything that a bear might find interesting and want to check out.

Grizzly 399 has been able to live among people for over 25 years. She is unique in that regard. But as she gets older, she will have a harder time getting the nutrition she requires from natural food sources. This puts her at high risk of switching to human-provided foods and then, ultimately at high risk of removal from the wild.

Please do your part to prevent bears from learning to associate unnatural, human-provided foods with an easy meal.

JACKSON, Wyo. — A grizzly bear sighting in the Aspens on Tuesday, May 7, reminds Teton County residents to implement safe bear practices. An Aspens resident shared with Buckrail that a sub-adult male grizzly bear chased a sickly-looking moose through Lake Creek, and then it ran down Pond Drive aro...
