Within the last two weeks, we have responded to two separate fires involving hay balers. Be sure to protect yourself, equipment, and property by keeping a fire extinguisher handy at all times while working in the field. It only takes seconds for a fire to rapidly take off in hay with the dry conditions we are currently experiencing.

🚜 Hay Season Is Here! 🌾

Hot temperatures, dry fields, and hard-working equipment can create the perfect conditions for a fire.

Don't let a small spark turn into a major loss. Make sure your tractors, balers, combines, and service trucks are equipped with properly maintained fire extinguishers.

🔥 Protect your equipment.
🔥 Protect your crops.
🔥 Protect your farmers.

Last night for monthly training, members trained on vehicle fires and vehicle extrication. Newer and less experienced members learned how to safely approach and extinguish a vehicle on fire. Afterwards, members trained on basic extrication techniques with our new Holmatro Pentheon spreaders and cutters. Skills learned included identifying danger spots for airbags and struts, removing doors, roof removal and dash lifts/rolls.

At 20:21, Co. 13, Sq. 4 & Sq. 8 were dispatched for an overturned tractor trailer in the 9600 block of Richmond Hwy. Additional information came in of two tractor trailers overturned with multiple lanes of traffic blocked. Chief 13 requested Co. 16 be added to the call with unknown entrapment, injuries, and two tractor trailers overturned. Chief 13 arrived on scene to find one semi with two trailers overturned blocking all westbound and one eastbound lanes with all occupants out and uninjured requesting to be checked by EMS. Rescue 13 (w/4) responded and blocked the westbound lanes just prior to the crash to start redirecting traffic. Chief 13 established command and advised that Co. 16 could return to service as well as a small active diesel spill. 4A2 arrived and began evaluating the patients. Chief 16 arrived on scene and assisted with blocking the eastbound lanes. Engine 13-1 (w/5), Truck 13 (w/2), & Command 13 (w/1) responded and assisted with traffic control. You may have noticed a new addition to the fire house lately. Over the last few weeks, we installed a LED sign with a rock bed around it. Be sure to keep an eye out for it when driving by to stay up to date on important information, fundraisers and other events we are involved in!

We would like to give a a huge thank you to Finly Corporation for donating the materials for the concrete pad! As well as RSG Landscaping, LLC and Leesville Landscape Supplies for donating the materials needed for the rock bed!
