The new year brings renewed hope and new opportunities for better health for the women of San Felipe in Northern Baja California, Mexico. Thanks to a $130,000 Rotary Global Grant, a state-of-the-art 3D mammography machine will soon be installed at the local Cancer Clinic.

The project is sponsored by the Clayton Valley/Concord Sunrise Rotary Club and the San Felipe Rotary Club, with generous funding support from ten additional Rotary clubs. This new technology will replace the mammography machine originally donated by Clayton Rotarians 20 years ago and will significantly improve early detection by identifying far more tumors than previously possible.

Installation is expected to be completed in time for San Felipe’s annual Cancer Walk in early March. Without this equipment, the nearly 10,000 women in the region would be required to travel more than 100 miles for mammography testing.

Rotary Cares! Making a difference!

Youth Homes received a generous donation this week thanks to Cars2ndchance, Lamorinda Sunrise Rotary, and a very good friend of Youth Homes 🥳💙

Did you know your old car can be turned into profit for our youth services? When you donate your car to Cars 2nd Chance and mention Youth Homes, the amazing folks at Lamorinda Sunrise Rotary give it new life, sell it, and the proceeds come back to us!

Dear Friends and Supporters,

I hope this email finds you well! I’m excited to share the latest updates from our clinic:

👶 A Joyous Arrival
Yesterday, we welcomed a beautiful baby boy into the world! Both mother and baby are healthy and doing wonderfully.

🤝 Welcome, Nurse Brenda!
We are delighted to introduce Ms. Namagembe Brenda, our new nursing assistant. Brenda has joined the technical team just as patient numbers are increasing, and we’re thrilled to have her energy and expertise on board.

💵 A Tremendous Gift from Julia Kitay
A heartfelt thank you to Rotarian Julia Kitay for her generous $2,000 USD donation toward staff salaries. This support helps ease one of our biggest challenges and allows us to focus more on delivering quality care.

💧 Launching Our Community Water Initiative
In partnership with The Global Uplift Project and thanks to a generous pledge from Tineke and Torsten Jacobsen, we’re rolling out a Water Filter Project in four local schools—beginning with a pilot at Ssaku Secondary School.

Pre-installation testing showed unsafe water, which has been contributing to a rise in waterborne illnesses among students. Many families lack the fuel to boil water regularly—a problem we aim to solve. We’ll monitor filter usage and track health improvements over time.

🏥 Free Diagnosis & Treatment for Affected Students
Students with symptoms of waterborne illness are treated at our clinic at no charge. This allows us to gather baseline health data now and measure improvements after the filters are installed.

📅 What’s Next
Filter installation at Ssaku Secondary School begins next month.

Water testing and health screening follow-ups will take place 4–6 weeks post-installation.

We’ll send another update once we have results and new stories to share.

📝 Thank You!
Your support—whether in time, resources, or encouragement—makes real impact in our community. Thank you for helping us improve health and opportunity for those we serve.
