This year the tree lighting had 12 financial sponsors, either individuals or businesses/other charities. We will have donation boxes at the marshmallow barrel fire, the horse and wagon rides, and at the DJ booth. The fireworks this year is costing $5000. The best place to view them for 7 o’clock will be the legislative office Garage just east of Eagle Square on the top level, looking at the Everett, Arena. We also will have a white G dollar bucket, at the DJ stand, to collect one dollar bills that have the letter G on them for the mint Mark of Chicago Illinois. If you look at your one dollar bills, there is a letter in a circle on the left side of the bill indicating the location of the mint that printed the money. The Grange collects “G “ dollars at Grange meetings and designates them to a special account. Any donation is gladly accepted as the Grange and Eagles turn that money back around into the community, neither the parade or the tree lighting is paid for by the city. Thank you for your support and hope to see everybody at the tree lighting on the plaza!

Thank you to Concord Housing & Development for allowing the placement of a communications radio antenna for radio use during the Parade and Tree Lighting festivities for the holiday season! The view was fantastic from the installation point!

I just got confirmation that at the tree lighting this year, the Concord Salvation Army will have a small brass ensemble playing musical instruments at the lineup/loading area for the horse drawn Wagon Rides on the State House property.

We will have two wagons again this year for Wagon Rides with two teams of horses. This is usually a very popular ride around the block for people. We would like to ask people to feel free to drop a dollar or two into the donation bucket at the entrance line while boarding the ride. This is a very expensive ordeal to hire two teams of horses with wagons. This year we have had the lowest number of donors for the program that we have had in years for both the parade and the tree lighting. Every dollar is being stretched and it would be great if people would help us with the “G” Dollar Donation and a donation for the horse and Wagon Rides. We are adding cotton candy and chocolate and candied apples this year as well as a couple of costumed characters milling around for photos with the children, and also allowing the children to decorate the Christmas tree with ornaments. I am trying to grow the tree lighting festivities annually. Just a few dollars and support goes a long way to helping us put on the show. Thank you again for showing up and for helping us out. The fireworks will occur again this year, and please understand this also is the mother load of donation monies, as Fireworks typically run $1000 per minute at any Fireworks show for the most part.

This year, when your children show up to the tree lighting, if they would like to put an ornament on the tree this year, we are allowing children to decorate the Christmas tree with their ornaments, whether they make them at home or if they’re commercially purchased. We will have a ladder available to put them up higher than children’s height if desired, but this year the tree belongs to the children for decoration.
