SMGA New England Warrior Golf Cup Tournament Atkinson Resort & CC

We hosted our first ever Team U.S. Marine Corps vs U.S. Army Warrior Cup Open. Fifty-Six veterans representing the Marines and Army competed against each other with 2-man teams from each branch playing against each other in a Ryder Cup Format. The U.S Marine Team led by Dan Conley ran away with the win. Following golf lunch was served on the patio with the earlier tee time golfers rooting on their teammates as they were coming up the 18th fairway.

A very grateful shout out to the New Hampshire Marine Corps League for sponsoring this event and for our Scottish Bag Piper for the pre-game entertainment.

Looks like a repeat for 2027 based on the excitement that was displayed by all.

A group of fifteen SMGA Wounded Veterans from the Springfield, CT area spent a wonderful day enjoying ideal weather and a round of golf together.

Ellington Ridge Country Club, renowned as one of the premier private golf courses east of Hartford, CT, offered our group its welcoming fairways for the very first time. The superb course conditions and greens that were both flawless and pleasantly challenging made the experience even more enjoyable.

Adding to the camaraderie, Jerry Shanahan, the founder, and Bob Suprenant, our sponsor, joined the Veterans out on the course.

With a great deal of difficulty, I’m reaching out to share some tragic news about our one year old grandson, Logan. He was recently diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome, a rare neuro genetic disorder that has profoundly affected our entire family — our son Alec, daughter in law Katie Switzer Shanahan and Katie’s parents, Rob and Mary Switzer.

As you can imagine, after reading more about it on the link, the medical needs associated with Angelman Syndrome are extensive and lifelong. To help manage the extraordinary and ongoing expenses, the Shanahan-Switzer family has created a GoFundMe to help support Logan’s care.

If you are able, our family would be deeply grateful for any contribution toward easing what will be significant and long term medical and care related costs. Your kindness and support mean more than you know.

We had a great Masters Sunday at XGolf Methuen! All the bays were filled up with SMGA members and friends, and the food was endless too!
