A group of fifteen SMGA Wounded Veterans from the Springfield, CT area spent a wonderful day enjoying ideal weather and a round of golf together.

Ellington Ridge Country Club, renowned as one of the premier private golf courses east of Hartford, CT, offered our group its welcoming fairways for the very first time. The superb course conditions and greens that were both flawless and pleasantly challenging made the experience even more enjoyable.

Adding to the camaraderie, Jerry Shanahan, the founder, and Bob Suprenant, our sponsor, joined the Veterans out on the course.

From Jerry Shanahan.....

With a great deal of difficulty, I’m reaching out to share some tragic news about our one year old grandson, Logan. He was recently diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome, a rare neuro genetic disorder that has profoundly affected our entire family — our son Alec, daughter in law Katie Switzer Shanahan and Katie’s parents, Rob and Mary Switzer.

As you can imagine, after reading more about it on the link, the medical needs associated with Angelman Syndrome are extensive and lifelong. To help manage the extraordinary and ongoing expenses, the Shanahan-Switzer family has created a GoFundMe to help support Logan’s care.

If you are able, our family would be deeply grateful for any contribution toward easing what will be significant and long term medical and care related costs. Your kindness and support mean more than you know.

More information about Logan's story and Angelman Syndrome can be found on the Go-Fund page link for Logan.
With appreciation,

Jerry Shanahan & Vicki Staebler

Golf season is rapidly approaching but it’s still hockey season. The Worcester Railers recently honored the SMGA New England and other Worcester County Veteran and First Responder organizations recently and here’s some photos from that event.

On November 8th , 2025, four former Army Rangers & SMGA New England members conducted a water Jump over Lake Eustis Florida at 1,500 feet from a C-47 aircraft. The same aircraft that dropped airborne soldiers into WWII.

Kim Emerling, Mike Emerling, Charles Bennett & Kenny Morrell joined their fellow rangers who they served with in various Ranger battalions over 35 years ago. About the same time as their last jump.

They celebrated Veterans Day and their brotherhood during the Water Jump, Parade and a banquet that followed.

Myopia Hunt Club Members and Staff delivered an exceptional Veterans Day experience, hosting fifty-four SMGA New England Veterans for a day that truly moved the needle.

A brisk, winter-warrior kind of morning set the tone as our Veterans, twenty Myopia Member Ambassadors, and eighteen caddies stepped onto the course. Despite the chill, the team operated with flawless ex*****on and high-touch support from start to finish.

After golf, everyone warmed up with a truly elevated dining experience; New England clam chowder, beef tenderloin, baked ham, and the iconic Myopia coconut macaroon cookies. The room was alive with cheers, camaraderie, and authentic connection.

It was a marquee day celebrating our SMGA Veterans, their service, and the freedoms we’re privileged to enjoy. SMGA New England is deeply grateful for the enduring partnership and friendship we’ve built with this historic, world class club.

Thank you, Myopia Hunt Club.
