We are a national non-profit organization dedicated to working to reduce the incidence of melanoma. The mission of IMPACT Melanoma is to reduce the incidence of melanoma nationwide. We provide a variety of educational programs targeting the prevention and early detection of skin cancer and melanoma for both children and adults. Today is National Sunscreen Day, a great reminder that sunscreen is more than a summer habit. It is an important step in helping prevent skin cancer and save lives.

Did you know that having more than 5 sunburns doubles your chance of developing melanoma?

Through IMPACT Melanoma’s Practice Safe Skin program, communities can increase awareness, provide skin cancer prevention education, and offer access to free sunscreen through dispensers in parks, beaches, urban areas, and other high-traffic locations.

Because sun safety should be accessible to everyone.

Huge thanks to Cecile Schreidah and the Northwestern Dermatology Interest Group for teaming up with IMPACT Melanoma at Northwestern University’s Dillo Day! ☀️

With a UV Index reaching 7 that day, students stopped by in huge numbers for sunscreen samples, lip balm, and sun safety resources. The table was such a hit that supplies ran out in just two hours.

We’re proud to support future healthcare leaders helping raise awareness about UV protection and melanoma prevention in their communities.

Special thanks to Northwestern Medicine Dermatology for sunscreen support and to everyone who helped make this event such a success.

Today, we pause to remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to our country.

As Melanoma Awareness Month comes to a close, we’re also reminded how precious life is, and how important it is to protect ourselves and the people we love.

This weekend and all summer long, take a moment to practice sun safety: seek shade, wear sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and check your skin.

With gratitude and remembrance.

Inspired by personal loss and driven by a desire to protect his community, Charlotte Latin School sophomore Jack Benonis turned an Eagle Scout project into a meaningful act of prevention.

With support from Purple Promise and IMPACT Melanoma, Jack helped bring free sunscreen dispensers to the Charlotte Latin campus to help students, faculty, and families stay protected from harmful UV exposure.

Jack was inspired by loved ones impacted by skin cancer, including the loss of his grandfather to melanoma. Now, his project is helping raise awareness and make sun safety more accessible across campus.

A special thank you to the Charlotte Latin nursing staff, including Jenny Greathouse, Jean Asinger, and Dawn Hull, for supporting this initiative and helping make sun safety part of everyday student wellness.

We’re proud to support young leaders like Jack who are helping create healthier, safer communities through prevention and education. Learn more about our program: https://bit.ly/3Mdy1Ir

Recently, one of our DIGA students, Talya Cohen-Neamie, led a Skinny On Skin presentation at Collectiv Academy in Braintree, MA, helping cosmetology students learn more about melanoma awareness, prevention, and early detection.

Professionals who see their clients’ skin regularly, including hairstylists, barbers, estheticians, nail techs, and tattoo artists, can play an important role in noticing changes that may need medical attention. That is why Skinny On Skin helps equip beauty and wellness professionals with knowledge that can help save lives.

Thank you to Talya and the students at Collectiv Academy Braintree, MA for being so engaged, asking thoughtful questions, and becoming part of this important prevention education effort.

Prevention becomes powerful when it is built into everyday spaces. In “Conquering Skin Cancer,” former Boston City Councilor Matt O’Malley and IMPACT Melanoma Executive Director Deb Girard share how a simple idea led to sunscreen dispensers across parks and playgrounds.

What started as a pilot in Boston has grown into more than 11,000 dispensers across 42 states. Expanding access makes protection easier and helps turn awareness into action. IMPACT Melanoma is proud to be part of the “Conquering Skin Cancer” film, advancing solutions that communities can implement to help save lives.
