Gaining Ground Gaining Ground is a nonprofit organic farm, growing exclusively for hunger relief in eastern MA. For free.

Based in historic Concord, Massachusetts, Gaining Ground grows 125,000 pounds of organic produce for hunger relief with help from 2,500 volunteers of all ages and abilities, who work and learn in our fields. In short, we grow food and we give it away to people who need it. We work hard to grow healthy soil and high-quality produce, provide an exceptional experience to each volunteer, serve the nee

ds of our recipients and maximize the generous support of our donors. Throughout the harvest season, produce from Gaining Ground’s farm goes to food pantries, meal programs and shelters in Greater Boston and Eastern Massachusetts. Our approach is local and sustainable—most of our produce is distributed within 20 miles of our farm and within 24 hours of harvest. Some groups use our produce to prepare a free meal distributed to people who need it. Others give it away as part of providing free food to people in need. In addition, we are participating in regional and national agricultural research projects to improve upon and expand methods of regenerative, no-till farming to grow healthy, more productive soils. These methods allow us to better withstand extreme weather events and can directly mitigate climate change by pulling carbon out of the atmosphere and putting it back into the soil, where it directly benefits crop health.

Last week saw Gaining Ground's largest distribution day EVER by weight, with almost 4,300 pounds of food donated in a SINGLE DAY to feed our neighbors experiencing food insecurity. 🌽 🍅 🥬 🍉 🍆 🌶️

One highlight of this harvest was delicious sweet corn, with quality control conducted by Co-Assistant Farm Manager Ava. 😉

Our treasured partners, Open Table. 🌻

Volunteers and flowers always brighten our day! This Thursday, in addition to providing groceries and prepared meals, our distribution team treated our clients to fresh cut flowers from our amazing partner, Gaining Ground — who also keeps our pantry stocked with farm-fresh produce week after week.

It's a small touch that makes a big difference — a reminder that our clients deserve beauty and joy, not just the basics. Thank you to our incredible volunteers for spreading that extra bit of love at every drive-thru, and to Gaining Ground for nourishing our community, one harvest at a time

Gaining Ground's Jennifer Johnson and Debbie Pullen were invited to the Women's Celebration Night at Fenway Park, together with other nonprofit leaders from the Women in Nonprofit Network.

Meeting Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll (center) was one of the highlights! The Healey-Driscoll Administration continues to champion food security for all MA residents through its Anti-Hunger Task Force and proposed program investments.

Tremendous thanks to the Red Sox Foundation, Women's Foundation of Massachusetts, and Bank of America for working to strengthen our local nonprofits.

Our partnership with Open Table has helped expand access to healthy LOCAL produce for three decades, including 80 lbs of organic lettuce harvested today. 🥗

During the ongoing outbreak and investigation of Cyclospora, out of an abundance of caution, Open Table is not distributing bagged or commercially produced lettuce at this time. The lettuce we distribute is from locally grown sources.
